Meet Jimi, a licensed Drone Operator specialising in aerial/ground photo and videography.
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into freelancing?
I got into freelancing as it fits in best with my lifestyle. I’m not a 9 -to-5 guy and most of my adult life my work has been through agencies, which works for me, as my jobs/contracts I do, are kept short and sweet!!
What was your previous job before deciding to go freelance?
Before I retrained as a Drone Operator I was a plumber/pipefitter for 10 years!! Quite a career change I know!!
How did you come across PPH?
PPH was recommended to me by a friend, Ian Gallacher, who provides the music to the footage I produce.
What is a typical day like for you?
If the sky is clear and the wind is low, I wait for the “golden hour” to go out filming. I also spend my days editing footage for clients and advertising my business etc. Last week my day was spent on an ex-war ship gathering aerial footage for a documentary that’s being put together by the Captain!!
How does freelancing compare to a 9-5?
Perfect is the best word to describe it; I’m my own boss and I can manage my days better as it’s to my own schedule. Plus not getting stuck in rush hour traffic is bliss!!!
What benefits have you found by using PPH?
Well, its great advertising for my business and networking – which is always a must these days.
What does your future hold? Where would you like to take this?
I want to travel, explore the world and capture it from above; and so to earn a living whilst seeing the world is something I’ve wanted for a long time. If I can spend the next 40 years doing this, then that’s all my boxes ticked.
What are your top tips for freelancers who are new to PPH?
Get yourself featured, check the PPH site daily and send those emails – everyone is a potential client.
What are your top 5 tips for the job you do?
Ah! That’s a trade secret, but what I will say is greet everyone you meet, carry a business card; you never know where your next job will come from.
What web browser do you use?
If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?
I’d be an eagle, freedom of flight and top of the food chain…
