Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into freelancing?

I got into freelancing a while back when I was forced to spend a few weeks at home from work with a fractured foot. I had been working on building my own site when I came across PPH. I set up my profile and sent out a few proposals. I landed my first client and things picked up from there.

What was your previous job before deciding to go freelance?

I was a tech manager for a security systems servicing company.

How did you come across PPH?

I had used another freelancer platform to hire and was never really impressed with the candidates. I first came to PPH to hire but ended up creating a profile and picking up some clients.

What was your first job like on PPH?

I did a few content creation jobs and then I started working with an agency doing SEO for law firms.

What is a typical day like for you?

Pretty typical of any office job for the most part. I do work at home which is nice but I typically start work from 8 to 5 or 6.

How does freelancing compare to a 9-5?

No commute! That’s an extra 2 hours right there. There is no 9-5 in the US. I think you are lucky to find an 8 – 5 without overtime. Also, working from my computer means I can work from anywhere in the world. My wife and I travel quite a bit, therefore I work on the road when I can.

What benefits have you found by using PPH?

I like PPH because it makes it easy to see which freelancers are qualified and have the necessary experience. I think the biggest benefit of PPH is the hourlies feature. Not only does it allow you to create a service that can bring in clients without sending proposals but it also creates a sort of market value on services. You can check out the top freelancers for a particular service and see the average rate. That is extremely helpful for both freelancers and people/companies hiring freelancers.

What does your future hold? Where would you like to take this?

My future will be geared more towards building a business. I love being a freelancer and it will remain part of my career for a long time to come.

What are your top 5 tips for freelancers who are new to PPH?

1) Learn a skill before you become a freelancer. Pick a skill you have, or want to have, and become really good at it. Build proof and then create your freelancer profile.

2) Make every proposal unique. Put some thought into your proposals and people will notice. Never copy and paste proposals.

3) Put some effort into your profile. Potential clients will actually read your profile!

4) Try to find a unique service or a unique approach. There are so many people doing the exact same thing that it is hard to stand out if you are not doing something unique.

5) Hang in there! Some weeks you may not land a single new job but if you keep at it your hard work will pay off.

Focusing on the businesses true goals. In this case the primary goal was increasing registrations. Using influencer marketing we drove over 100k registrations

What are your top 5 PPH tips for small businesses?

1) Looking through the top freelancer list will quickly identify plenty of qualified freelancers. Sometimes this is easier than creating a job post.

2) Be specific with your job post. The more specific you can be the better chance someone will have a good offer for you. Broad job descriptions get broad answers.

3) Determine what a reasonable budget is for your job. If you price your job well under the average then you will get below average work. Good freelancers can go and work for an agency at any time and make good money. They charge according to their skill and experience.

4) Communicate with your hire. If the job needs to be done in a specific way then make sure everyone is on the same page.

5) Ask for freelancer recommendations. If you hire an SEO freelancer you really like then ask them who they recommend for social media or web development the next time you have a need. Many freelancers have freelancers in other areas that they consistently work with and will be happy to refer.
