PeoplePerHour.com reveals reverse-offshoring’ trend

Press release: London, November 20 2008 – Businesses choose quality over cost as UK-based freelancers prove more popular than cheaper overseas competition.

In the current economic climate, increasing numbers of businesses are using PeoplePerHour.com to outsource work to freelancers working remotely rather than take-on the risk and cost of permanent staff.

Some online freelance resources have attracted criticism recently for enabling cheaper overseas freelancers to massively undercut domestic workers. However, PeoplePerHour.com is bucking this trend in emphatic fashion.

Figures from the site show that despite potentially higher costs, businesses are favouring British freelancers to such an extent that every one of the site’s top ten earners is UK-based.

It appears that business owners trust home-grown workers more, believing them to offer better quality and efficiency.

Mike Bloxham, managing director of land investment business Land Projects, uses PeoplePerHour.com to source writers, PRs and designers. He stopped using other freelance websites after he was continually swamped with bids from international workers. He also found language barriers and time differences inconvenient.

In spite of the credit crunch, it seems British business owners are unwilling to compromise on quality. PeoplePerHour.com founder and CEO Xenios Thrasyvoulou believes we are seeing a new trend: ‘reverse off-shoring’.

‘There is a growing trend for outsourcing to UK-based freelancers,’ reports Thrasyvoulou. ‘Often it is not the price that sells the job – it’s the promise of quality. People feel work by a UK-based freelancer will be done to a higher standard, and this is worth the additional costs’.
