Start-up companies can put forward a professional image by making use of outsourcing and virtual office spaces, according to an expert.
Geoff Kirby of virtual office firm Go Response said that many small new firms need a central communication points, and virtual offices, which can include a business address, mail services, web-hosting services, and more, can provide this.
Using such a services gives "flexibility", he said. "[The businesses] can cope with whatever hits them, especially when someone is starting out, it makes good sense."
He added: "The main thing for most if they are a small start-up, they dont want to look like a small start-up, they want to present a professional appearance to the outside world and being able to offer, for example a reception service, is a way of doing this. The motivations do tend to be different for different people.
"A lot of small businesses are run from home, they don't need an office, they don't want an office, but they do need a central point to act as an office. And that's what we do."
This service is likely to be useful for freelancers working from home - an increasingly popular option as the web becomes ever more important in the 21st century business world.
