Supportive spouses key to success for freelancers

Apparently, having a supportive spouse is the key to success in business. Not that as freelancers, we don’t know that.

New research by Bibby Financial Services, has revealed that 38 per cent of spouses whose partners ran a business, thought that working at the weekends was acceptable. 44 per cent of spouses also thought that ‘working late at the office’ into the night was not to be ruled out and in fact, was necessary at times.

But however much support you can give, there are also going to be arguments about it, and the research says that 24 per cent of spouses argued with their partners for doing overtime. Unsurprisingly, 29 per cent of respondents believed that their partner should spend more time at home.

Bibby Financial Services global chief executive David Robertson said that for small business owners, it was essential that a strong support network of both family and friends was key to the success of any business, particularly during the contemporary economic climate.

“Most entrepreneurs’ other halves understand only too well that certain sacrifices are needed and there sometimes has to be a trade-off between family life and work life to achieve business success,” he said.
