Social networking sites still an untapped resource for majority of freelancers

It has been recently found by a recent survey conducted by  BT Tradespace that the use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter  and YouTube  by  freelancers and small businesses has more than doubled from 7% last year to 15% at the same time this year.  However, it was found that only 13% regularly log on to their chosen site.

Freelancers can make regular use of social networking sites to promote their skills and services so there is definite scope for improvement. However, small businesses are often slow to recognise the enormous potential and value of social networking as a tool to expand their services. As BT Tradespace director Mick Hegarty says, “Many are still failing to realise the full potential of the web to help them compete and thrive in our changing world” He goes on to point out the potential for smaller companies to grow via social networking sites as much of their business is already conducted through relationships, and referrals and social networking sites build on this.  As he points out, “Professional networking enables them to play to their strengths whenever they interact with customers, suppliers and business partners.”

BT Tradespace has recently launched its new platform, Marketplace set up to enable small businesses attract more customers.
