Small businesses take to twittering
A recent poll conducted by O2 the mobile phone company has found that 17 per cent of small businesses are now using Twitter for their business communications. Indeed, 28 per cent of these have opened a Twitter account in the last four weeks.
It has been found that 75 per cent of the 500 small businesses that were polled are currently using Twitter to market their product. Under half the Twitter small business users find Twitter useful for communicating with suppliers and customers.
Apparently Twitter also has its uses for watching the competition as 34 per cent of small business users have found. The Twitter site is also a great money saver on communication costs for businesses.
O2’s head of business marketing Simon Devonshire said: “"The way small businesses are using Twitter is a great example of how the community is embracing new technologies in order to adapt and survive in the current economic climate."
Indeed 68 per cent of these Twitter users said they preferred Twitter to their own company blog. It appears even to be superseding LinkedIn and Facebook in popularity.
According to Hitwise last week Twitter was the 54th most visited website in the UK.
