Research from the RadioFrame Networks has found that mobile phones are vital to
small business owners.
The survey also found that many bosses are now using their phones for a variety of purposes including email, instant messaging and internet browsing.
Author of the report, Rob Bamforth said: "The mobile phone has become the hub of
business communications activity, and a vital link for the [
SME] workforce.
"Contact numbers and address books in the handset mean that it is very often the default instrument for making calls, in or out of the
workplace."
He added that lack of coverage is often a "frustration" to
small businesses.
The research showed that more than a third of
SMEs have had problems with their mobile networks at work, but many still use it over a fixed phone even if there is one at their desk.
Mark Keenan, a general manager at RadioFrame Networks said that the most important thing for a company was that its mobile phone has "good quality voice services".
Mobile phones have long been essential to individuals who run small businesses but I'm getting really excited about the prospet of truly mobile broadbandwith the arrival of iPhone and BT 2GO handsets and the like.
