Title:Windows Launcher Application

Location:Anywhere

Job Description

We require a Windows based program launcher, that will work in both Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (both 32 and 64 bit)

Look and feel should be similar to the launcher bar on a Mac

It doesn't need a context menu, or any visibly configurable options. All configuration will be defined by a single ini file held in the program's program folder. Each icon that appears on the bar will have an entry like the following:

[Program name]
program tooltip=Windows Notepad
program path=c:\\windows\\notepad.exe
icon=c:\\icons\\notepad_icon.png

Program name will be something Like Windows notepad and this text will appear below the icon.

The program tool tip should be able to accept upto 255 characters (minimum) and allow for CR and or LF so we can have multi line descriptions.

The program path parameter should be able to accept command line parameters. E.g.

Program path= c:\\windows\\notepad.exe c:\\text file\\hello.txt /C

The icon parameter should be able to accept png or ico files.

In addition to the program parameters, there should also be a [general] section that will for the time being contain one setting:

AutoHide=1
Which will enable or disable an Autohide feature, and

Show program title=1

Which will show or hide the program name parameter below the program icon

When the user hovers over the icon, the program tooltip text should be shown in a tooltip window.

When a user single clicks on the icon, it should launch the program as defined in the ini file.

Preferably written in VB.net with all source code deliverable to me once the project is complete

Hi

Could this be done in Windows C++ ?

What is wrong with the start bar ? can you not just drag programs there and use them to launch applications.

The MAC Launcher does far more than just kick programs off which to me is all you are asking this "bar" to do.

Regards

Graham

Would be interested in bidding just wondered why the start bar isn't enough for you.

If .NET is acceptable would you accept C# code? What timescale are we talking, and would you expect animations such as zooming based on mouse proximity?

Thanks,
Law.

VB only please. I can program this myself, I just lack the time. Graham: it sounds like you're trying to convince me I dont need the job doing! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! The star bar is too configurable, and liable to be messed with by users (esp as our users are high school children) Animations and a "fish eye" type effect would be nice, but certainly not essential. Some kind of animation would be nice (e.g. the icon raises up slightly on hover)
Thanks

Check out RKDock (RocketDock) or even StarDock. They should be able to help you out unless you definately need some of the more intricate features you've asked for...
