Title:Website refresh
Location:Anywhere
Job Description
I am a freelance photographer and .NET developer with some web design skills. I designed and coded my own website a few years ago and need to refresh its look and functionality. I am so busy with photography work that, despite having some skills myself, I do not have the time to do this.
The current design is ok, but the elements do not line up very well (I used iframes) and it does not have good cross-browser consistency. I want to refresh the design and produce something more polished with HTML and CSS. I would also like to incorporate a simple flash object to replace the current 'fading' images that I currently achieve with javascript. The flash would just be made up of still images and will not be interactive.
The site is hosted on a Microsoft server.
Here is some additional info about what I'm looking for.
I want to create a clean, minimalist site that takes on the appearance of a matted wedding album (see attached). I want to use real photographs of the page texture and image cutouts and use CSS or equivalent to position these elements and backgrounds to frame my text and photographic content. (I don't want to use graphical representations of these, like Photoshops substitues, because I want it to look 'real').
The site will consist of around 4 pages: a simple homepage with flash slideshow (static images fading from one to the next), a contact page, about me page, and a gallery page to show examples of my work.
Cross-browser compatability and non-flash redirecting is important. But I don't need anything more technical than that. As a guide, I'd be looking to spend 90% of my budget (i.e. 90% of your time) on getting the visual look of the site right.
PLEASE NOTE: I'm not interested in CMS or anything with php. I am a photographer so will be supplying the images myself - no need for stock images!! Those of you who actually read my original description new that already ;)

G. P. on 15/01/2010 10:25Hi Alex,
What is the current website address, so I can take a look at it and present you with a quote consistent with the work required?
Also, how many pages are you looking at for this?
Look forward to your reply.
Gino.
X. M. on 15/01/2010 12:44Hi Alex
Please forward the website address.

M. A. on 15/01/2010 18:51please provide us with your site link
A. L. on 15/01/2010 19:14Apologies for the missing url. Didn't realise it would be removed. I think I can ligitimately include it, as this is the site I want you to update. The site is at alexlewisphoto .com. Thank you! Alex
A. L. on 15/01/2010 19:26I can offer the following additional details:
I am not looking for any hosting. The site is currently on a MS server (so using MS technology) and this will remain. I am prioratising visual impact, aesthetic appeal and ease of functionality over features such as content management, admin screens or users logins (though a check that my current SEO setup is correct would be a bonus). I am looking for a clean, contempory design, similar in look and feel to a modern wedding album! I am happy that the majority of the design is achieved with HTML/CSS, with some simple flash for visual impact. I am happy to keep my current logo, unless the successful bidder has strong ideas about that! I will follow with more details if needed. Regards, Alex
D. S. on 26/01/2010 16:13It's funny to see your post about not wanting a CMS or anything .php.
In the spirit of this clarification board... do you know what you are saying or asking for? A CMS will allow you to upload your OWN images and it makes not real odds if it is .php or .asp...
Take the advice that people are giving you and if you are unsure of anything you are being told post a question here and let the hoards argue over it.
CMS for you would be good as it would give you complete control over your site, the language is fairly irrelevant • except to say that the majority of CMS sites will be .php.
Here are some practical tips on staying safe
- Never pay any money to Clients and or provide sensitive details like your Bank information, Credit Card or Passwords
- Never accept a Job if you have been directed away from PeoplePerHour to another website
- Be cautious when providing your personal contact details (email, telephone number, instant message ID etc) before your Bid is accepted
- If you have been asked to send samples, put a watermark on them or send low resolution examples to avoid being exposed and not getting paid
- Don’t start work before your Bid is accepted and your Escrow deposit is made
- Keep your Escrow account topped up and ensure that you use the Private Message Board to track all pertinent details about the Job e.g. timelines, deliverables etc
- Before you supply final works to Clients, ensure you have adequate funds in Escrow
Remember: if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
