J. H. on 05/03/2010 13:18Hi Chris,
It's for a racing game we're building for an exhibition stand. There's 2 games and the client wants a shared high score table with simple 3 letter input. We guess the easiest way to do this is that they both point to a remote php file somewhere (there's web access for both machines) - rather than messing around with local servers. We've also got a few other PHP projects that might need a look at going forward.
Cheers,
Jan
J. M. on 05/03/2010 13:21Hello Jan,
That sounds rather interesting, could you perhaps divulge as to what the game is being written in?
Will the score information be posted to PHP via your game, or will a module need to be added by the winning bidder to integrate the game with the Score Board?

J. H. on 05/03/2010 13:29Hi James,
It's for a racing game written un Unity 3D posting to PHP - the high score table could be a simple xml that the game picks up
Hope this helps,
Jan
G. E. on 05/03/2010 22:20So the game will send (http post) the initials+score to a web page,
and that page then displays the current high-score table.
You are not concerned with checking for duplicate initials, nor ability to reset the scoreboard?
Will you want the provider (me) to host the web page?

J. H. on 08/03/2010 12:56As it's for an exhibition we're not worried about the need to re-set everything for this version. Ditto for duplicate initals.
We would host everyhting.
C. P. on 06/03/2010 01:46Hi Jan
Am I right in thinking that there the following two parts to this? The game calls a URL (eg, store.php), passing the individual game scores, and this stores that game's results in a MySQL table. And at another point the game calls another URL (eg, results.php) to receive an XML table back, with the contents of that MySQL table in, ie, the combined high scores table.
Thanks
Chris

J. H. on 08/03/2010 12:57sounds about right to us - we've found in the past that XML works fine. thanks
G. R. on 10/03/2010 09:14Dear Jan,
I am not a graphic designer. Would you be able to supply a design or some graphics to indicate how you would want the final page to appear?
Regards Giles.

J. H. on 15/03/2010 10:31No need for graphic design, we just need an xml page delivered in the right format. thanks jan
R. K. on 11/03/2010 11:49So I'm assuming you're wanting someone to use php to render an existing mysql db of scores to html.
Beyond that are there any special sorting/searching requirements (I dunno say high scores for particular game environment)? And what about the html display itself - is it basic or does it need to be pretty?
Cheers

Here are some practical tips on staying safe
- Never pay any money to Clients and or provide sensitive details like your Bank information, Credit Card or Passwords
- Never accept a Job if you have been directed away from PeoplePerHour to another website
- Be cautious when providing your personal contact details (email, telephone number, instant message ID etc) before your Bid is accepted
- If you have been asked to send samples, put a watermark on them or send low resolution examples to avoid being exposed and not getting paid
- Don’t start work before your Bid is accepted and your Escrow deposit is made
- Keep your Escrow account topped up and ensure that you use the Private Message Board to track all pertinent details about the Job e.g. timelines, deliverables etc
- Before you supply final works to Clients, ensure you have adequate funds in Escrow
