So in summary, 50+ icons with a general web/IT theme. We would like the original material in a vector format (SVG or XAR ideally, PDF otherwise) and sets at 16x16 and 64x64 in PNG format.
The icons must be clear and sharp at the above mentioned raster sizes. Colour scheme and appearance should be consistent across the set.
This is a trial of something new for us, if it works for us then we it may result in an ongoing relationship with similar jobs in the future being offered. With that in mind the ability to communicate in clear English may represent an advantage. Also, we would like to see examples of what you can do before hiring.
Finally, a condition of the job is that copyright for the icons, source included, passes to us in its entirety upon payment.
Thanks,
Barry.

I have already put a query about this project. To clarify, why would someone take this project on?

This is the third time I have replied to you. I'm happy to answer questions if they help to clarify what is required, however I am not sure what purpose your questions serve.
"To clarify, why would someone take this project on?"
Generally people do work because they are paid. Hope I've cleared that one up for you.
We're certainly not looking for a labour of love to rival the Sistine Chapel, just a good quality set of vector icons.
I. A. on 30/08/2010 16:39Hello Barry,
Why would someone bid upon this project when you can buy the elements off the shelf? Moreso, why don't you do this yourself.
I don't wish to bid in this project if I have good reason to believe this is a scam?

There is obviously something about this job that is somehow confusing you, however it is fairly simple:
We want somebody to design a new set of icons. We will pay them for doing this, and we will then use the icons as we please.
I'm not sure in what respect this could be a scam - perhaps you could enlighten me.
I. A. on 30/08/2010 18:07Barry,
Let me indulge you for a few moments. This is clarification because it is a financial breakdown of this project.
To clarify your asking for 50 plus unique logos for a maximum of £150? To me that is £3 per logo. If we assume that person would be working for a minimum wage of £5.80. (I thought this would be a good benchmark as we both live in the UK) To do this project at the minimum wage I would have to do this project in 25.8 hours. This basically equates to 30 mins per logo.
I am very experienced and work fast, i've had to learn to, but that is impossible and ridiculous. It's more likely that I could blow fire balls out of my mouth or pull rabbits from my ****?! Have you trying asking a design consultancy?
If anyone takes this project on within these parameters it involves commercial suicide. The irony is that you probably begrudge paying £150 in the first instance so it would be well below the minimum wage. . .
Sorry one more thing, which planet are you from?
Please don't insult educated, intelligent and skilled people who are trying to earn a living.

I'm sorry the budget is not acceptable (to you). With that being the case, don't place a bid.
I would suggest however that many of the icons are simple, and that once the base icon is created (for databases, for example) then a variation of that (adding a plus symbol, for "add new database" let's say) should not take 30 minutes.
However, that's a detail for each designer and as to whether it makes commercial sense for them again depends on where they live, and so on.
I. A. on 30/08/2010 18:52Hello Barry,
Whether there is someone who is willing take this project on is yet to me seen. I agree you with on that point. But without sounding rude, I wouldn't hold out for anyone in the UK who speaks fluent english.
I have another option which I am prepared to consider with you if you don't have any other candidates. Buying the logos off the shelf - it will give you what you want, you get the intellectual property and I work for a respectable amount of time and money. This will go through the PPH website of course.
Food for thought I hope. . .

B. H. on 30/08/2010 19:04Candidates need not be in the UK if they have a good grasp of English, so please do not be put off bidding on the account of the above message.
That said, for the right freelancer who (like us) is new to PPH and wants good feedback, then this is an excellent opportunity. That is of course reciprocal, and applies whether you are in the UK or not.
The budget is competitive however depending on the business outcome for us (from this project, which is a trial) I would reiterate that we would work again with the right freelancer.
Any further clarifications as to what is required then post away, however if the job simply does not appeal then don't bid, it's that simple.
Thanks for everybody's interest so far.
I. A. on 30/08/2010 19:21Hello Barry,
I offered you an olive branch and you are now talking to me as a third person.
As it stands, this project is competitive if you are a monkey bashing the keyboard.
I hope that everyone who reads these messages see it for what it is.
I rest my case.

Please calm down. The clarification board is for everyone's benefit so forgive me if I don't sign off with hugs and kisses. If you want a personalized, one-on-one response then use the PM system.
We are a small company, not a giant corporation, and we have a limited budget for a trial project. I think it could suit a number of freelancers, especially those who would do a good job in return for good feedback.
It's that simple.
Thanks again.
