S. P. on 31/03/2011 18:30Hi Jamie, thanks for posting this job.
If you require postcode accuracy in pricing, you will need to purchase a licence to use Royal Mail's database, which is very expensive.
If you were just interested in pricing at a town/city level, let me know and I will place a bid.
Regards,
Stuart

M. P. on 31/03/2011 22:36Can you provide a table of distances by postal code area and a rate table per transportation method?
Is it ok to do this in Javascript?
Thank you.
S. P. on 04/04/2011 10:07Hi Jamie,
Have you heard back from your client yet regarding how accurate the calculator needs to be?

He is calling into the office today to discuss it, I asked the question the other day and he has gone away to think about it.
Will be in touch ASAP

J. B. on 14/04/2011 12:12HI stuart,
can you just confirm how the calculator would work please? will people still put postcodes in and based on a price per mile £ value it will in essence ping back a estimate quote straight away.
Also will I be able to modify the price per mile at any time to reflect in what the petrol prices are?
and finally can it be intergrated easily into a wordpress site.
the site in question is www.b-wizzsamedaycouriers.co.uk
sorry to be a pain, just need to get it right for the client.
S. P. on 14/04/2011 14:33Hi Jamie,
Yes - the user would enter the two postcodes they wish the courier to go to and from, and the calculator would ping back an estimated price immediately. When it has calculated a price, a form will appear prompting the user to enter their contact details, which will be sent back to your nominated email address upon submission.
Without purchasing the Royal Mail postcode database, it will not be entirely accurate but will be based on Google Map API's postcode abilities, which is accurate within a few miles. (The "full" Google Maps does use a Royal Mail postcode database licence, but the API available for free does not because of the licence restrictions)
It will integrate with WordPress but will not appear as a full-blown plugin because of the extra development needed to do this (along with the possibility that it could stop working with a future WordPress installation). It will sit on your server, and WordPress will simply "include" the file on the page. I will set this up for you.
If you would like me to enter a full bid on this basis, let me know and I will do so.
Regards,
Stuart Pinfold
S. P. on 14/04/2011 14:35Oh, and yes you will be able to update the price at any time to reflect increased/decreased (pah!) petrol prices.

J. B. on 14/04/2011 21:22hi stuart,
I was very happy with your explanation of everything and the way you came across, I promoted your offer across to my client and he sounded very impressed with the offer. If you would like to place a bid we would like to start straight away.

ps i may be working on another site similar to this one, will I be able to use the same coding for the next job if I pay a bit extra once the job is needed?
Here are some practical tips on staying safe
- Never pay any money to Clients and or provide sensitive details like your Bank information, Credit Card or Passwords
- Never accept a Job if you have been directed away from PeoplePerHour to another website
- Be cautious when providing your personal contact details (email, telephone number, instant message ID etc) before your Bid is accepted
- If you have been asked to send samples, put a watermark on them or send low resolution examples to avoid being exposed and not getting paid
- Don’t start work before your Bid is accepted and your Escrow deposit is made
- Keep your Escrow account topped up and ensure that you use the Private Message Board to track all pertinent details about the Job e.g. timelines, deliverables etc
- Before you supply final works to Clients, ensure you have adequate funds in Escrow
Remember: if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
