Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the business: Photography courses
Industry: Lifestyle/Travel
Type of logo: Pictorial mark
Brand name/slogan in logo: North West Photography Courses
Number of revisions: 2
Ideas for the visual style: See notes below for more detailed brief
Things to avoid: We don't want it to look like a camera club (ie heavy use of lenses/viewfinders)
Preferred colors: Green, blues, colours from nature
Where the design will be used: Web, print, social
Extra notes: We will be offering 1 and 2 day courses ranging from beginners' up to advanced skills and courses in specific types of photography such as landscape, birdwatching, wildlife and digital/retouching skills.
Our USP is that we are based in an area where the rural landscape of Lancashire meets the outskirts of Manchester (Birtle) so you can be photographing subjects in a apparently remote wooded valley with deer, great range of birdlife and scenery etc yet be in Manchester in 30 minutes. As well as offering rural settings we will be offering courses which make the most of the local industrial history such as access to the steam railway in Bury and the ruins of old mills now being overtaken by nature. The landscape and rural charm is however a key selling point.
The brief to our website designer is that the site, like the business itself should feel like shopping at John Lewis - absolutely professional and honest with great attention to detail but you know the staff will be friendly and approachable. Most sites of similar business are either a bit folksy and amateurish or they are all about the gear and perhaps a bit anoraky and off-putting if you are not at advanced level. We definitely want to avoid it looking the logo of a camera club.
Our market is likely to be mainly men, fairly well off and 40 - 65 (typical Volvo driver) so we don't want overly cute or whimsical and colours probably more greens and blues than pinks.
A lot of logos in this market use either images of lenses or viewfinders so we'd like to avoid that if possible.
One idea we have had is to base the logo around a representation of the top part of a tripod either with a bird perched on the arm of the tripod or with a tendril of a plant creeping up around one of the tripod legs. The arm of the tripod and the tripod itself could frame the type in the area below.
In terms of fonts, maybe something scripted but legible such as http://www.dafont.com/byrow.font?fpp=100&text=North+West+Photography+Courses
Hope this is enough to go on, please let me know if I can add anything else.
