Hi,
This is a rather unusual request but I'm hoping to find an engineer or designer who can build a device out for me. I run part time a small Cricket (the insect) Farm for sale to reptile owners and zoos. By far the most frustrating part of the operation is the collection of the crickets, which is very manual and currently achieved by shaking their housing into bags. This is time consuming, messy and awkward to accurately obtain the right amount of crickets for dispatch. and I would therefore like to develop some kind of vacuum collection device which would allow me to easily "hoover up" the crickets into a collection chamber. I have made various attempts so far but am struggling to find something with sufficient suction to remove the crickets from their cardboard housing without also damaging/killing them when they are deposited into the chamber.
I'm therefore looking for someone who can design and build out an appropriate device for me. Each collection chamber would need to hold approx 5,000 crickets which would weigh c2.5 kilo.
