K. W. on 23/07/2010 20:55Give us an idea how much copy and how much graphic design and you will get more accuracy in your quotes/ bids. anyone bidding per job, on the amount of information you've given so far is taking a great risk. please try to be more specific about quantities

A. D. on 24/07/2010 10:33Hi KeithBecause I am a start up small business I am also guided by each copy writers and graphic artists advice and suggestions- and this is my first exercise via this type of freelancing. I already have quotes for hourly rates and then will receive a quote on how much work someone feels they need to do in order to get it to where it needs to be.There is nothing risky about my business or the way I pay people.thank you
J. C. on 24/07/2010 08:35require additional information re your project. No pro will bid unless they genuinly feel they can aassist and no pro will bid unless armed with sufficient information to make the project successful. Questions need answering
e.g.
1-what do you consider is the USP of your product.
2.the market you are aimimg for (youth /over 50's etc)
3.can you describe your product in ten words?
4.who are your key competitors.
I am able to undertake the neccessary writing brief-but- would suggest you split the job- offer a skilled graphic designer the finished copy so he/she can then create a corporate look for your site.
J. O. on 24/07/2010 08:37My advice would be to repost this with the graphic design and copy requirements listed separately. Very few graphic designers are decent copywriters and even fewer copywriters can design stuff.
I think you are right to avoid hourly rates as too often people quote a low rate and then set the meter running and you end up paying far more than you would have for someone who appeared to be more expensive.
So I suggest asking for a fixed quote for a task that is as closely defined as you can make it.
Also I suspect you need a separate web developer to make sure you get the right build on the e-commerce side.

A. D. on 24/07/2010 10:39Hi Judythank you for your time and suggestion.I probably need to re word my add?? I guess I need to place an hourly rate first, and then post my work to the interested parties and then they can come up with the end quote for the whole of the job.I have an e commerce site, just parts of it, but need to add more content, which for me is a pain- but I also need to see who is reliable in their work, as already have spent alot of money with designers who can't park websites with certain servers I am comfortable with when it comes to modifying content.thank you Judy
K. W. on 24/07/2010 15:16Hi Anna
That\'s not what I meant. I meant If you didn\'t have the full details you would be taking a risk of vastly over or under pricing their bid and therefore finding they wouldn\'t get the work or couldn\'t honour their quote.

A. D. on 24/07/2010 15:24Thank you for your help! I guess you live and learn, as I already have with some designers and now back to square 1
E. L. on 24/07/2010 21:13Hi Anna,
It's difficult to bid without knowing the quantity of work. Do you want text for several webpages? Can you say approxmately how many words per webpage? Do you want several different subjects on a page and is there research involved for the writer?
I agree you may want to consider a lump sum bid per batch of work.

A. D. on 25/07/2010 02:18Thank you Eva for your suggestions on how to display my add a bit more in detail- hence my need for a copywriter!!
Here are some practical tips on staying safe
- Never pay any money to Clients and or provide sensitive details like your Bank information, Credit Card or Passwords
- Never accept a Job if you have been directed away from PeoplePerHour to another website
- Be cautious when providing your personal contact details (email, telephone number, instant message ID etc) before your Bid is accepted
- If you have been asked to send samples, put a watermark on them or send low resolution examples to avoid being exposed and not getting paid
- Don’t start work before your Bid is accepted and your Escrow deposit is made
- Keep your Escrow account topped up and ensure that you use the Private Message Board to track all pertinent details about the Job e.g. timelines, deliverables etc
- Before you supply final works to Clients, ensure you have adequate funds in Escrow
Remember: if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
