Title:WEb designer with understandings of Google maps policies

Location:Anywhere

Job Description

Calling at all creative/smart/reliable/efficient/think-out-of-the-box web
designers to bid for this job.

First have a look at the picture that I attached.

Now, this is very simple yet, needs to be crafted perfectly...

What I am after is a website, based on a map like the one
you see in the picture, where different venues in the streets are
marked with a pin (or any other mark as a matter of fact) .. when
visitors move their mouse over the marks a window should
pop up displaying a video with some content.... that's it.

Now imagine a whole street with a mark in every venue along
the map, and a video popping up out of each mark ...

Can you create something like this to run smoothly ?

Obviously other things will be added to this website to make
it more dynamic and attractive but that it's the basic idea.

I found similar idea here http://www.aquisipuedes.es/ where they
placed a mark in every venue in which is allowed to smoke.

Noticed that when you load this page, you get a message from
google and you are unable to see the map with the marks, obviously
this guys have had some conflicts with google's policies and they
have taken measures to stop their content, the right person for this
job will have to help me out to find a way to get around this issue, I
also noticed that the same guys have an iphone app with the same
service and seems they haven't had a problem, so would be interesting
to have a look into that.

Thanks for your time and looking forward to hearing form you

Pepe

Hi James

That\'s all pretty straightforward to do (and in fact you can use Google\'s own tools to create one really easily - are you sure you need a developer?)

If you are looking for the whole website thing, like your example, then I can see why you would need to hire someone. I\'d be happy to help, but need to know a few things before I can give you an accurate proposal.

1. Is the content from you, or do you want it to be that venues can add their own submissions to the site so that it populates itself?

2. In addition to the pop up, do you want each venue to have a linkable page? With full content (contact details, pics, videos, text, etc... that sort of thing?)

3. Do you want users to be able to rate the venues?

4. Do users sign up to the site, or is it just open to all?

5. Will there be any cost to venues - do they pay to be on the site?

6. Any advertising on the site?

Kind Regards
Mark Tandy

Hey mate:

Thanks for your email.

1.to begin with i just want to add a video to the mark in the map, obviously if the web generates enough traffic i will be looking at making it more interactive, but as for now the simpler the better.

2. We could add just a link to their web, somewhere next to the video, thats all.

3. I would like people to rate the venues, defenetly, something simple though, maybe just thumbs up or stars.

4. Open to all

5. I am not going to charge at first, but once in see how the traffic evolves I would consider charging a few quids

6. It's my idea to create most revenue through advertising, I wanted to give the venues that I am listing the opportunity to promote their nights or special offers , etc.

You are right that I could do it myself but I really want something that looks decent and also that it's legal, as I have the feeling that there is something in this project that may have a conflict of interests with google maps, so I need someone who understand this regulations.

So I guess the web would be really simple now that I come to think about it... I just want to show people very short videos of venues so they can choose before hand, I am aware though, that to boost my web in google I need to write a lot of text to create traffic .. I guess I'll have to get around that too... :)

Hope that helps, looking forward to herring from you.

Hi James,

How many hours are you expecting the work to take ? Or in other words, how many hours does your budget allow ?

Cheers,

Atif

I don't know to be honest, how long
Would it take you to create a website
of that short ?

Hi James

Thanks for the additional information. Can I just ask one last question before putting a bid together: How will the video content be stored? In otherwords, do you want your site to save the videos and hold them there (this is very very heavy on CPU usage), or are you intending on creating (for example) a YouTube account where the videos will be stored?

Kind Regards

All will be stored at YouTube by
the time being, I am adding
couple of webs which are doing
a very similar thing to what I
have in mind...

The Boris' one is perfect, and I
would like to add couple of things
from the other two..
