Title:Vocabulary test

Location:Anywhere

Job Description

I am looking for someone who can make me a web/iphone program that will test the Spanish, French or other foreign language knowledge of the user in the following way:
1. Ask the user to select a list (database/spreadsheet). I include a sample of lists called level 1’to level 3’.
2. Ask the user to select the language to be tested (default second column in the selected list).
3. Ask the user in which language to test (default first column of the selected list).
4. Pick a word randomly from the list. Ask the user to translate it into the language to be tested.
5. In case the answer is correct, repeat step 4 (pick the next random word, and check it is not the same as the previous word)
6. In case the answer is wrong, present the correct answer & schedule the same word to be asked after two other words (either random or also previously scheduled) have been asked.

In addition, during step 4, 5 and 6, show the number of words asked and show the percentage replied correctly. Also offer buttons to the user to go back to selecting other languages or another list.

It may work well to create a stack of the three next words to be tested, and a random word in case the user is correct; or add the wrongly answered word in case the user is not correct. The words coming up should not be displayed to the user.

I would prefer if you can make a program that is quick and is light on code rather than a program that is heavy on design (preferably nothing that slows down like graphs or heavy compilation like dreamweaver). I would however like the program to be able to deal with new lists from excel or MS works spreadsheet where the number of words and the languages are flexible.

I may ask your help in how to put it on a website or on an iphone.

I would like to give you a bonus if I like the result, however I ask to own the work and retain ownership of the idea. In case it works, I may ask if you are available to do more work on this or other programs. I like it if you indicate in what software language you will program. If you can do part of what I wish for, but have doubts or cannot do all, please let me know.

Clarification Board

Hello Robin,

Just a few questions to clarify:

1. Do you want the bidder to create a program for BOTH web and iPhone? If yes, do you want it available on the App Store or for jailbroken iPhones?

2. Are Excel/MS Works spreadsheets a must? Text files (or an SQL database) could possibly prove just as effective for this project.

3. Do you have a preference on development language? Would you prefer if the same language was used for both web and iPhone?

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin,

Thank you for the questions. As long as you indicate what you intend to program, I am quite flexible on my wishes:

1. Web only for the moment is not a problem. I would like to use it on an iPhone eventually, however am happy to leave it for later.

2. Text files or csv files are fine as an alternative.

3. I am flexible on the development language.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Robin

Thanks for the information Robin.

One last question I forgot to ask. Do you have a design in mind or do you require the successful bidder to design the application?

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin,
I care most about the functionality and speed. Design like google without the google graphics is fine for me if that makes sense to you.
I hope this helps,
Robin

Hi Dave,
Thank you for the bid. I was hoping to find one (or two if the website will allow me) persons to start tomorrow or the day after. Do you also have an account with reviews attached to it?
Best regards,
Robin
