Title:Upsize my MS Access research database to an SQL Server database

Location:Anywhere

Job Description

I've been talking for years to programmers about how to design a research database to run efficiently online so others can input with me. I hired a consultant, finally, who advised I buy Visual Studio 2008 to learn asp.net & Visual Basic Programming, which I'm doing. Since I'm habitually a self-taught student, designing this database myself doesn't seem to be too much of a challenge in itself. But through all this learning I've become aware of a need to upsize my database to an SQL Server database, which is a glitch I do need help with.

When I tried to do this I get an error message ODBC connection to SQL Server(local)failed. Then I tried installing the ODBC data source driver, again an error message, in part, Connection failed: SQLState: 01000SQL Server Error: 14 ’¦ConnectionOpen (Invalid Instance()).

I'd like a programmer to access my computer remotely via the web to check out my database for any possible flaws that may inhibit this transition, or whatever else that may be the cause. But it'd also be helpful if the programmer knows enough about asp.net & rather complex database design (i.e. many relationships), because then I'd like to discuss more regarding the wisdom of how I designed it so far.

I'll attach a picture of the relationships of all my tables to reflect my complex needs. And I'll sum up these needs here with: (a) Research requires a subjective method of categorizing, which requires many rules & monitoring all other users' inputting for consistency's sake, so (b) I need to track all other users, their entries, rate & grade them on average for their performance, track all sources for everyone's research, publishers & authors, categories & subcategories, etc.

Good evening,
I have good experiance of building a very complex database in MS Access. Then the business decided to migrate everything to SQL Server. Using the "Upsize" method was a failure fraught with many pitfalls. I took the descision to re-build the database on SQL using Visual Studio. I feel this this would be the best approach for you as well. If you are able to do it youreself than that will obviously save you money but of course willeat into your time. If you want to discuss the matter any further please do not hesitate to contact me.
Carl.

Thank you. For now I need to explore this on my own & if I run into too many overwhelming problems, I'll know where to turn.

Amount: $39 Per Hour

Country of Freelancer: United Kingdom  United Kingdom

Acceptance Reason: I have my data in MS Excel as well & have just been made aware that I really need to convert it to SQL Server in order to not have hassles in the future. But I am concerned whether I can continue to input into SQL Server when you migrate my data over into it, since I have the MS Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition. Does this version of MS Visual Studio include SQL Server? Also, we'll have to talk a lot about my needs, so hopefully we can talk via phone & have you look at my computer screen remotely at the same time. These are all my requirements I'd have to stipulate to go ahead. If I don't have the right version of SQL Server, I'll have to rethink my plans somewhat.

Thanks
