Telecommunications Market Research

I am looking for an intelligent research piece on the top 25 trends affecting telecommunications corporations globally, along with cited data. Extra points for anyone who can also provide analytical reference to Australia and key Australian market participants (Telstra, Optus etc). Against each trend, I wish to see:

- Trend Description
- Commercial impacts of trend (brainstormed widely), particularly impact on consumer behaviour, consumer expectations and market channels
- Assessment of current status and future status at 3 and 5 years (i.e. evidence the trend)
- Implications for the strategy of a telecom corporation
- How are key global players dealing with or responding to this trend (with primary or secondary citation if at all possible); consider AT&T, Vodafone, Verizon, Telefonica, NTT

There should be supporting data against all (properly cited for my later reference), and please paste down any web links to useful whitepapers, google books, websites, articles or online accessible media.

Each trend should essentially be a one+ page executive summary excluding figures (charts, tables). It is desirable that a consistent heading format be used for this so that comparative analysis can be easily conducted (please use the Word table of contents feature).

Against each trend, I would also appreciate a 'dump' of any and all relevant material identified through your search. This should not be rubbish, but simply material for which you need provide no additional editorial commentary (perhaps one page of further links).

Trends can be positive and negative, and may relate to technology, consumer demand, geopolitics, supply, new entrants, new industries (think of Porter's five forces and then some; changes in society, technology, economy, consumer behaviour). Importantly, my focus will eventually be Australia, so please don't select trends that are only relevant to, for example, the US or China. Off the cuff, an example of trends might be:

- Cloud computing and SaaS
- Continued mobile handset and smartphone penetration
- New smartphone capabilities (perhaps a bunch of subtrends under this)
- The failure to identify globally harmonized spectrum for next-generation “4G” services
- TVs will overtake games consoles as the dominant in-home connected device
- Social networking stickiness (remember, implications for ICT corp strategy)
- Ubiquitous high speed Internet and FTTH; changes behaviour; users more inclined to stream a video every time they want to see it rather than download
- Transitioning from service provisioning to 'content' provisioning - telecom companies need to become content providers?
- Consumer privacy and hacker risks with new devices and connectivity
- Convergence in infrastructure
- Tablets
- Wifi
- Telepresence

Finally I would like a summary review of about 2+ pages discussing the key market drivers, global forces and strategic responses in the telecommunications industry.

Please do not plagiarise - highlight any and all quotes and properly cite. There are no penalties for writing more than the target, however a 2 page output excluding figures is the baseline deliverable for the trends. I'm looking for a thoughtful and reflective piece that actually critically examines 25 trends with industry knowledge and a sense of commercial proportionality. There must be more depth than my unexamined, 2-second list above. I will provide additional guidance around research avenues to the winning PPH'er. Are you up to it?
