Title:Small site and database development
Location:Anywhere
Job Description
I need a small site developed that will work as a type of user-driven review site. It will require a database to store the individual items to be reviewed, and collect the information submitted by the user.
The best comparison I can provide is the website beerintheevening.com. As with that site, I need a user to be able to search or browse a database of entries, view the details of any individual entry and be able to submit a score and/or comment on that entry (which would require them to register/login, another aspect of the site I need designed).
I have no server/database to speak of and believe that MySQL is a possible solution but will need advice from the programmer on the best way to proceed on a relatively limited budget (the website is not designed to be profitable at this stage, so I am not keen to spend too much to get it going).
At this stage the graphical design of the site is not important, it is the ability to collect, store and return information to and from the user that concerns me, and the ability to administer and edit the data after it has been submitted.

R. O. on 26/10/2010 13:10Hi Chris,
What would you be reviewing? Would it be pubs like the example site?
Regards
Rob

C. L. on 26/10/2010 15:59Hi Rob - not pubs, but you could take that as the framework as it would be 'establishments' of a specific type, rather than objects like cars or movies or whatever. I would prefer to keep the specific subject matter to myself until I have chosen a bid.
Thanks,
Chris.

C. L. on 26/10/2010 16:01The specific details of what is to be reviewed I would prefer to keep to myself until I have chosen a bid. It would be places rather than objects however, so you could use the pub example as a template.
P. K. on 26/10/2010 15:18Do you want the users to enter beer details and location or only admin will enter them ?
Reply from Client
C. L. on 26/10/2010 16:00The details of the places in question would be entered by admin, but there would need to be a separate form for users to suggest new places (that form would not necessarily need to feed directly into any database).
P. K. on 26/10/2010 21:52hello Chris,
It would be ideal to have a better design because later on it would become difficult to skin - are you flexible on budget if the design is included too.
Here are some practical tips on staying safe
- Never pay any money to Clients and or provide sensitive details like your Bank information, Credit Card or Passwords
- Never accept a Job if you have been directed away from PeoplePerHour to another website
- Be cautious when providing your personal contact details (email, telephone number, instant message ID etc) before your Bid is accepted
- If you have been asked to send samples, put a watermark on them or send low resolution examples to avoid being exposed and not getting paid
- Don’t start work before your Bid is accepted and your Escrow deposit is made
- Keep your Escrow account topped up and ensure that you use the Private Message Board to track all pertinent details about the Job e.g. timelines, deliverables etc
- Before you supply final works to Clients, ensure you have adequate funds in Escrow
Remember: if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
