Paypal API and Virtuemart Integration

Description
Joomla site with virtuemart installed using Paypal API to process transactions with Express checkout.
We have an error in our system whereby when a customer is directed to paypal by virtuemart, details of the purchase are not passed over to paypal any more (this used to work, but we may have changed some settings and don't remember what they were).
Basically, when the customer clicks continue in the Paypal gateway, they are redirected back to our site with the following errors:
Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /public_html/sitename/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/classes/payment/ps_paypal_api.php
We require a paypal api / virtuemart expert to fix our issue so that details are sent correctly to paypal and so that the checkout can be successfully completed.
For someone familiar with this, it should not be too difficult a job.
