Job Description
I want to create a web-based non-profit therefore design, user-friendliness and functionality are extremely essential. It is not simply the website of a non-profit--the website IS the non-profit.
The website needs to be able to have membership capabilities, perhaps paypal capabilities and user-generated content. I hope that the website will grow to have a LOT of content--as users contribute, content grows.
Examples of websites that are somewhat similar to what I have in mind: GlobalGiving.com, Kiva.org, RefreshEverything.com
This is NOT a fundraising site, however the above websites offer a similar "feel" and nature to what I would like.
***Graphic design, web design, website management, brand ID, SEO are all compulsory aspects of this job. ***
The website will probably need several prototypes/re-designs.The designer must be patient and able to work with me on the website in the long-term until I am satisfied with how it works.
If the designer does a great job, is willing, and the website is a success then a longer-term job with additional payment is a possibility (mostly depending on the success of the website).
This website needs to look fun, unique, and creative. I want to avoid the formulaic, template-oriented look of many websites.
There have been an overwhelming number of bids, so I will only consider those bids that have shown to have given my project careful thought, and that include a portfolio.

Reply from Client
L. C. on 16/11/2010 09:27It is a web-based NGO that will allow users to post content on the profiles of organizations at which they have volunteered, in order to skip the expensive middleman voluntourism agencies that are so popular nowadays.
P. K. on 16/11/2010 09:32Thanks - kiva and globalgiving are about lending money online - you are asking for something where profiles of organization will be shown - Will this include moneylending process ?

L. C. on 16/11/2010 09:35Thanks for your questions.
At this point in time, no.
The similarities that kiva and globalgiving have to what I envision is that
1 - organizations have profiles
2 - users view and interact with these profiles
3 - it is non-for-profit
In this case, the interaction consists of writing comments, and posting videos/photos to the profile in order to inform other users.
P. K. on 16/11/2010 09:43You mean to say something like
* Having profiles
* Users i.e volunteers registered to the profile
* Posting of articles / stories / contents / volunteer works - done by particular profile (agency) -- yeh this may include adding video/photos/sounds etc.
* Volunteers or registered users putting comments
So the bid would include design layout and then develop it ? I think you might be going for long term development work which may take some time to finalize design and functionalities - so you might be looking for a flexible provider who doesn't push you to finalize the design ?

L. C. on 16/11/2010 09:49The users would be free to view and comment on any organization profile, but it would be useful to have them listed under the organization's profile as users that have volunteered there.
It is important to note that there would be a separation between organization-submitted content and the independent user-submitted content. The purpose is to have third-party users with personal experience with the organization to talk about the process.
For example many companies charge thousands of pounds for someone to go volunteer at an orphanage in a developing country. The orphanage sees little of that money, and the volunteer gets little to no value for their money. However, if there was sufficient information, the volunteer could have researched how to contact the orphanage directly and to set up a volunteering stint with them, with the help of other users' content, instead of having to pay a lot of money to a less than charitably-minded company.
Yes, it would require long-term develop work and I would need a patient, flexible provider.

L. C. on 16/11/2010 19:15- I have a domain but no webspace.
- Pages would expand as users add content and as more organizations are added/
- No logo. Graphic design skills are a definitely a must. This website is the organization itself, so it definitely needs theme/brand building.
- The job description should say enough about needed features. Users should be able to add comments, photos and videos.
J. L. on 16/11/2010 16:31Hi Laurel,
Do consider using Joomla as the foundation for your site. It is the leading opensource content management system and is used extensivley within the non profit sector due to it's open nature.
There are thousands of Joomla developers who can assist you with this great sounding project.
Have a look at Joomla org and find out why you should use it.

Joe

I would like to share my view point and examples of work that we have done so far. I would like you to reopen the Chat.

L. O. on 17/11/2010 15:55Dear Laurel,
From re-reading your description, the time frame for this project seems to be very open. We have a web designer who would be perfect for what you are looking for, but as you can understand we have to work to a set time frame. Within this time frame we could provide you with a choice of 3 template designs for your website as well as the option to spend up to 7 hours with our designer at our West Wickham premises.
If at the end of our time frame you are still not happy with the results, we will then charge at a cost per hour.
Please let me know if this is ok. If so, we will get back to you with a quote, time frame and what the additional cost per hour would be.
Kindest regards
Lavdrim
