NAS - simple web management system

This project aims to provide a simple web page based configuration system for a NAS (samba) media server, which provides storage to video editing students in an educational environment.

While existing softwares such as webmin/open filer provide a part way solution, existing modules lack many of the simple, yet custom functions required for this specific application.

The platform used is ubuntu server (although it would be nice to offer this as a tool for others to use on different stables)

My expertise is in film/video post production services. From an end user perspective I know exactly what is required, folder structure's, permissions etc, but require a developer to write a tool which makes the above less laborious and manual.

Key features include the ability to:

- create/edit/delete a user
- define the home directory location
- manage user disc quota
- populate home directories with specific folder structures which are required by the two video editing softwares I would like to support (Avid/Final Cut Pro) - further explanation required.
- sharing pools: a system of symlinks where by different users can share media and collaborate - further explenation required.

I have a small budget to get this project off the ground, but will be wanting to add more functionality at a later date.
