The Good Schools Guide needs your help!
The unique guide to the best UK state and independent schools needs a new team member to help with its Great Annual Edit. This takes place for around six weeks in late September to mid-November.You will work from home in school hours only, telephoning schools in The Guide to remind them to edit their review. You will need to explain and help them through the online process. You will be trained and have the support of a friendly team. You need a telephone, an email address, a friendly and efficient telephone manner and plenty of patience and politeness coupled with considerable firmness. If this sounds like you and you would like six weeks school-time work in the autumn, please get in touch, providing your cv (inc 2 referees) and contact details.

Hi Ralph, Could you please let me know the duration of the training and timings? I have around 4-5 hrs daily during school hours (9.00 am - 3.00 pm). Monica

No. We'd like twice that ideally, and if we had to settle for less would prefer 3.5 hpd to 2.5hpd Ralph

Hi Ralph Please can you give me an approximate idea of hours required per week, i.e. would it be approximately 4 hours daily during school hours? Thanks. Renee

The maximum, I think, would be 35 hours per week, beginning at nine in the morning and ending at four in the afternoon and taking lunch as a sandwich at your desk. The minimum would be about 15 hours per week, spread evenly through the week. Because of the time that it takes to train you, and the advantage that you will have after you had a bit of experience of how schools are to deal with, we would not want to have lots of information chasers doing a few hours each. So your offer of four hours a day five days per week looks pretty good to me.

Hi Ralph, Do you need someone 5 days per week for this 6 weeks. I only have 2 days a week spare but would like to bid for this work. Thanks elaine

Dear Elaine, you would just about make the cut if you could work full-time for those two days, but it would not be the ideal arrangement as you will find schools wanting to get back to you in the days when you are not working, so we would probably prefer an arrangement where an information chaser was available for some time every day.

Hi Ralph, To enable me to place a correct bid, please can you advise how many hours per week you require someone. And will costs for telephone calls be met separately? Many thanks Laura

full time would be about 35 hours a week. We will prefer people who offer more hours -- it would leave us with fewer people that we have to manage and train. I suspect that we would not accept anyone offering less than about 15 hours a week.

there is no standard qualification, it is very much a matter of character and experience. To judge from your question, we might conclude that your English was not of the standard we needed.
