Clarification Board
A. K. on 03/07/2009 10:22 amHi
Just a quick piece of clarification in order to enable me to bid - you say this is a small office, but how many client PCs are we talking about here? Most of what you want is straight forward enough, but it to get an accurate quote would depend on how much time is needed to work on each individual client.
Thanks
Andy

Would seek further clarification on certain tasks, and/or in some cases why the stated action is felt to be the best option. These are marked FC.
Active Directory
1) FC • why is this option preferred? Configure VPN (use Microsoft VPN integrated into AD, rather than Router VPN).
4) FC • how is this configured at present? Ensure consistent use of sub-nets, DNS etc
IIS
6) FC • why is reinstallation thought necessary • IIS is a fundamental part of W2003/SBS? What mechanism is envisaged for iPhone integration? Reinstallation of IIS (accessing e-mail & schedules from iPhone)
Exchange
7) FC •why is this the preferred option? Reduce mailbox sizes (and create PSTs for users)
PCs
10) FC- Please be good enough to advise on what basis you qualify to be an Action Pack subscriber. Audit of all software used and licenses (Microsoft action pack licenses used & contact MS to free licenses no longer used)
11) FC • How many? Update all PCs to Vista (some are already)
12) FC • How many? Update all PCs to use Office 2007
14) FC • How many troublesome/poor performing machines? Review performance of office machines & troubleshoot machines running below par
Other
15) FC • Windows server does not have this capability to my knowledge • however it can force users to set and then change their own passwords regularly. Ensure uses have unique passwords

Thank you
K. S. on 09/07/2009 13:31 pmWe received a significant number of proposals, many of which are quite detailed and at very attractive rates.
Unfortunately, our technical specailist is on holiday this week. Therefore, we will be contacting suppliers to address specific queries and ask a few of our own.
The one question I can answer is the number of work stations. We have 4 desktop and 4 lap top machines. Our SBS runs Exchange and acts as our file server. We have a seaprate development server for maintaining source code and running sales demos. We don't believe any work is required to the development server.
1 desktop and 2 laptops are already running vista. We have admin staff who can run software installs to help reduce time requried on site & costs.
Please bear with us while we work through the responses over the course of next week.
Thank you!
