Description
Experience Level: Expert
We're looking for online features writers to work from home who can produce 1-2 short news pieces per day (around 150-200 words) and 1-2 long features per month (around 5-7 pages) for an online UK women's magazine.
The commission could be ongoing dependent on quality and timeliness of work.
Writers would be assigned to one of FOUR available topics: Fashion, Beauty, Celebrity or General (health & fitness, food & drink, women in the news, parenting) depending on experience and interest.
Writers would then be trained on using our CMS to upload their own stories each day. To facilitate this they will be given access to our image libraries and provided with necessary training and software to picture edit.
Writers would be autonomous in terms of subject choice for news pieces but would be subject to the normal editing process as with in-house writers.
Features and news would be published with the writers own picture by-line.
An understanding of SEO would be a major advantage to this role.
BENEFITS
- Training on CMS with own log in
- Work from home
- Access to image editing software
- Fashion/Beauty journalists would have access to industry databases
- Regular paid commission
About you:
- SEO aware
- Familiar with online journalism and CMS
- Student, freelance writer, blogger, stay-at-home mother or part time writer etc.
- Previous experience with imaging software such as Photoshop
- Previous writing experience on a women's magazine, website or blog a major plus
- Must speak and write NATIVE English.
- Passion for subject matter and writing.
This is an excellent opportunity for students; newly trained journalists and writers awaiting their first break; those looking to earn extra cash while off full-time work; and writers returning to the field after a period of absence.
FURTHER INFO...
The job would be 5 days a week - it would be up to you which ones you wanted to work/submit content though.
News pieces would be fast and short.
Features of 5-7 pages would usually have an intro page of no less than 200 words and subsequent pages could have anything from 10 - 200 words depending on the subject matter.
A visual led feature on shoes would not need as much text as a Q&A with a relationship expert for example.
It would be up to you to decide how to approach each subject but there would need to be a balance between more meaty features and fluff pieces.
You will be responsible for the whole process from researching, writing and designing the feature (i.e. layout, images etc.)
We have between £400-£500 a month per writer for this project.
