GPS Calculating Position

Hello,

in order to reduce the power consumption of smartphone positioning, we would like to partially substitute GPS by an intelligent algorithm based on accelerometer data and compass data. Modern Android phones provide 3D G-sensor data as well as magnetic north.

Please find enclosed a brief description of the algorithm.

We expect the implementation of a Java class that can be integrated into an already existing Android tracking application.

Our aim is to reduce the power consumption of GPS by not using GPS all the time and instead calculating the data measured by the two sensors mentioned above and calculating the position relatively to the last GPS position permanently.

First step would be to provide a Java class that proves that usable results can be obtained.

Acceptance criteria:
Power consumption of GPS is reduced by 80% and the positions reported have at least the same quality like GPS positions.
