Description
Experience Level: Expert
I’m looking for a talented front end developer to carry out a few hour’s work to improve the visual impact of our embeddable rating button.
Background: We have a website plugin that lets an audience express their sentiment towards a piece of content. In a similar way to Facebook\'s \'Like\' button, a user can express a feeling about something in one click - we\'re just going an extra step towards helping people express more than a simple thumbs up. The first iteration of our plugin uses jQuery and Rails to post a vote when a user clicks one of six emotions. Check it out at http://emot.io/demo-content.html.
For this brief, I\'m looking for someone who is extremely confident manipulating Rails views, CSS and jQuery to take the plugin’s interface to the next level and:
- Improve the visual impact of the widget to catch a user\'s eye
- Suggest and implement CSS and/or jQuery effects to make the plugin easy and fun to interact with
- Ensure the widget is cross-browser compatible (it’s currently not visible in IE - this needs to be rectified)
The primary deliverable will be fully functional, beautiful, standards-compliant HTML and CSS which can replace our current code.
We’re going for something extremely minimal that needs to have immediate impact, making this more of a design challenge than a technical one. Styles I\'m a fan of (aside from our own minimal but colourful page, emot.io) include http://peerindex.net and the pixellated joy of http://www.pixeljam.com/dinorun. Colour and simplicity are what it\'s all about.
Ideally you would have worked on a social web application in the past, but a good understanding of implementing simple, effective design is mainly what I am looking for.
Thanks!
