Work Experience
I've been a journalist, copywriter, PR professional, editor and feature writer for 15 years now. I've written about everything from advanced telecommunications networks to taking a hip-hop aerobics class, and pretty much everything in between.
Over the years I have worked on local papers in the UK, written about financial fraud, loyalty schemes and plastic card manufacture for a UK-based international publishing company and represented various publications at prestigious events across the globe.
My work took me to Dubai from 1998 to 2005, initially as Managing Editor of five publications - Computer News Middle East, Reseller World Middle East, Network World Middle East, Pipeline and Banker Middle East, which I conceived, created and launched.
I then moved into PR, as an account director for a leading Middle East PR firm, working across a diverse client base from ENOC, Emirates National Oil Company, to Radisson SAS Hotels and Resorts.
For the last two years in Dubai, I moved into freelance journalism and PR, ghost-wrote a business book, worked with an enormous diversity of clients performing PR duties, and developed strong relationships with many of the region's leading publishing houses, writing ad-hoc features covering business, travel, motoring, sport, art and lifestyle.
I also edited a Dubai-based technology/lifestyle gadgets magazine, Technomania, for around a year while freelancing in Dubai.
In 2005 I moved back to the UK, working as a full-time copywriter for a leading BTL technology agency, and am now working as a freelance journalist, copywriter and PR person.
I am based in central London, but many of my clients are based in the USA, the Middle East and globally.
I have written investment reports, articles for financial publications and business plans for many companies. I conceived and launched Banker Middle East magazine, and I am also an accomplished technology writer. I have not only edited a number of B2B and consumer-facing computing titles, but worked with many of the world's leading technology companies in both a PR and copywriting role, including Toshiba, LG, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, T-Mobile, Omantel, Gateway, NEC, IBM and many more.
I am also confident writing about motoring, politics, and energy. I was editor of Pipeline magazine in the UAE for eight years. I have interviewed many leading figures in a variety of industries.
Living in Dubai for seven years has given me a deep understanding of both business and business issues in the Gulf region, as well as a great affinity with khaleej Arab culture.
Education
I hold 11 'O' Levels, 4 'A' levels, and a BA (Hons) in Law from Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
I hold an NCTJ-equivalent Journalism Diploma gained after two years theory and practical work experience on a local paper in the UK; and a Diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Publishing.
