About Me
Hello,
My work history since the early 80’s has been in new business sales and major account development – most of this being service based (I have sold ‘product’ but I much prefer services). I promised myself I’d stop racing up and down motorways once I hit a certain age ‘milestone’ so these days I manage my time carefully to get what I believe is a nice balance.
Most of the ‘normal’ working week is spent working for private clients – in a nutshell I find new business for them. I’m always happy hitting the phones and doing it the old fashioned way but I invest a lot of time with Email marketing, Pay Per Click, and direct mail. Very often I’ll pilot mixtures of each, create some landingsqueeze pages for a client web site – and turn lead generation into an automated process.
I have a good understanding of SEO and Social Media but tend not to venture too far down that route – none of my private clients have money to waste, every penny spent has to show a very quick return, which makes SEO and Social Media less attractive to them.
The remainder of my week is spent working in Facilities Management (mostly OOH operational work) which is useful to me in many ways: it helps me understand services businesses I would otherwise never get involved with, and I do a lot of telephone training work.
For many years I sold IT services so CRM and communications technology are very much ‘my thing’ – I have a very deep understanding of both ACT and Goldmine, and a working knowledge of the web based applications SalesForce and VanillaSoft. I have accounts with RingCentral and UK2Numbers to enable me to use automated call routing and tracking as and when I need to.
I’m based close to the border of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire – the M40 is about fifteen minutes away and trains to central London run every half hour from the next village down.

I had to do this as a summary, I have absolutely no idea where to lay my hands on certificates so it would have all been guesswork.
Strong subjects at school were English, Maths, and Science. The subjects I'd rather not talk about were Geography, RE, and art. The rest were kind of 50/50.
From school I went into engineering, I took a 5 year apprenticeship and accumulated a decent number of qualifications - including an HNC.
Over the years I've invested time and money on additional training courses. Whilst most of this additional training has been sales and marketing related I did take on a project several years ago to migrate a companies CRM solution from ACT to GoldMine - so I went out and completed the GoldMine Certified Systems Engineer qualification.
