I work for a small publisher, editing, designing, typesetting, marketing and jacket design for books. My role involves taking books after they
have been commissioned through to completion, including editorial responsibilities such as house-styling, editing
and copy-editing; designing the complete book, including placing of illustrations, typesetting, paragraph styling,
page layout and jacket design; marketing responsibilities including dealing with author publicity questionnaires,
designing and printing flyers and publicity materials for book launches, researching and approaching potential press
contactsreviewers, and liaising with authors and sales representatives to ensure books are fully represented.
I scan and work with illustrations in Photoshop to optimise them for our books, deal with authors on a daily basis, and am responsible for managing the company website which has meant that I have acquired basic HTML and PHP skills, and I have also been responsible for reprinting several out of print books. I am skilled in the use of
Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, both of which I use extensively on a daily basis. I also have experience in using Adobe Illustrator. I am responsible for ensuring books sent to press comply with accepted industry standards for four-colour printing and have had some experience obtaining quotes for print jobs from various printers, including
Cambridge University Press.
To date I have produced over 26 books, two journals, bookmarks, bespoke leaflets and programmes, posters, flyers and website elements.
