Work Experience

I began editing academic texts in 1985, while studying for a BA in English at Florida International University in Miami. My professional experience includes working for trade publishers Simon & Schuster and the educational publisher, Scholastic, in New York, as well as more than two decades of freelance experience working with authors. A PhD in Comparative Literature reinforces my experience with academic texts, and has led to collaborations with companies and institutions such as Cambridge University Press, First Edition Translations and the University of Warwick. Speaking near-native German and Spanish, I provide translations into impeccable English, whether for the US or UK audience, while writing and editing remain at the heart of my career.

Editor at Personal

Writer of 550 page (140,000 words) novel was looking for experienced, critical writer/ editor to carefully read and edit work for cutting approximately 150 pages. The project required a senior person who has worked in this capacity more than once, and who understands the book publishing business to help give shape and narrative force to the work. Editor had to be willing to work closely together with the writer to draw the best creative work out of the client.

Rosvita and I have worked closely for the past 6 months in completing a novel. She has extraordinary skill as an editor, unsurpassed among those I have worked with in the past, which included three NYT best selling author/editors. She read my material several times (cover-to-cover), carefully analyzed it not only for the embarrassing grammatical mistakes, but the larger questions having to do with its arc, plot focus and characterization. She was bold in her earliest assessment, motivating me to take a hard look at my work, pressing me to meet a higher standard. She helped deconstruct the novel character-by-character until each was properly balanced in a complicated plot. I found her personable and impressive in bringing me to consider ideas that only improved the work. I recommend her highly for anyone needing a first rate editor.
