Inspired by my work placement with the Reading based company Design & Artwork Services (DAWS), I followed the constructive advice given and applied for a place at design college.

As a stepping stone to a National Diploma in graphic design, I successfully completed a Foundation Course in print and graphic communication at the Berkshire College of Art and Design. The printing element of the course proved a valuable asset for my future education and ultimately my career, giving me a distinct advantage and knowledge of both the practical applications and theory of all print production processes.

As well as completing the course with distinction, I received the annual Thames Valley Printing Award, which was presented by the BPIF (British Printing Industries Federation), awarded to the hardest working student.

09.1993 • 08.1995
My achievements during the previous year gave me the opportunity to further my studies with a National Diploma in graphic design. I developed skills in typography, layout, semiology and history of art & design, fine art, photography, conventional and digital design and artwork.
I passed with distinction and was invited to stay two more years for the Higher
National Diploma.

09.1995 • 08.1997
During the Higher National Diploma I continued with a more detailed study of design and once again passed with distinction. Our Diploma Show was held at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London, where I was head-hunted after a visit from what was to be my future employer. He was impressed by the lateral thinking behind my concepts as well as attention to detail in terms of typography and layout.

Able Creative, Ascot 08.1997 • 04.2000
I was initially taken on as a junior designer, but was soon promoted to a more senior role within the company. I was responsible for day to day studio and project management, such as interacting with high profile clients and suppliers, as well as managing jobs from brief through to print. Generally, our workload consisted of identity development, corporate literature and advertising & marketing collateral. I very much enjoyed my time at Able Creative and learned so much about the industry.

Fox & Hoyle, Portsmouth 04.2000 • 06.2001
Fox & Hoyle were looking for an all-rounder. With my experience from my previous employment, I was ideally suited for this role and was subsequently taken on as senior designer. As well as undertaking many of the same challenges as before, I developed basic, on-the-job web-design skills. Many of our clients were in the food & beverage industry and I was offered a variety of new challenges, working on packaging and point-of-sale.

The Paul Martin Design Company, Petersfield 06.2001 • 08.2005
I felt privileged to be taken on by PMDC, as they have earned great respect within the industry for their award-winning design. Again, I was able to work on a variety of design challenges in all fields of graphic design. The company prides itself on its high level of detail and accuracy in both design and artwork. I have taken these qualities on board and always strive for perfection
in everything I do.

Ten Alps RMA, Fareham 10.2005 • 4.2006
After a few months of freelance for Ten Alps RMA I was employed for a 6 month contract as a Senior Designer/Artworker. During my time there I worked along side the team to create numerous, multi-language travel brochures and national press advertising. Working within an advertising agency such as this further developed my skills of time management, in order to produce accurate artwork, within extremely tight deadlines.

Melting Pot, Chichester, UK (Freelance) 4.2006 • 5.2006
I finished my 6 months at Ten Alps and started at Melting Pot, a well respected design agency on the south coast near Chichester. My role here was more advanced than in previous employment, taking on more of a management position. As well as design and artwork I also managed the purchasing of local and national press advertising and liaised directly with all clients and suppliers. I found after my time at Melting Pot, that I had gained much more confidence in dealing with clients and suppliers.

kdesign group, Worthing, UK 5.2006 • 9.2007
The kdesign group is a nation wide network of design agencies. I was given the great opportunity to be one of two senior designers at the Worthing branch, where I independently control and manage my time and jobs from brief to print. kdesign has a diverse client base so I am able to vary my design style to suit different demographics.
