About Me
Hello - Bonjour - Guten Tag - Konnichiwa
Thank you for looking at our profile!
INTRODUCTION
We are a multi-skilled husband-and-wife team based in the UK. We provide these language services:
- translation
- interpreting
- proofreading
- editorial services, document design, and desktop publishing
- language teaching
TRANSLATION
We have worked on numerous translation projects for end clients and translation agencies in the UK, US, Europe, and Japan. See the "Experience" tab for a list of the translation projects we have completed.
Like translation agencies, we use SDL Trados 2011 software. In addition, we have access to the online and print holdings of a university library and good contacts with experts in law and medicine in Japan, so, if we need to do any background research for a translation, we have more resources than just Google at our fingertips! We take meticulous care to ensure that our translations are accurate and well-written.
Michael and Yoshiko offer
- Japanese-English (JP-EN)translation
- English-Japanese (EN-JP) translation
We work as a team on projects involving these languages. If the source document is in Japanese, then the translation will be written by a native speaker of English and proofread by a native speaker of Japanese. If the source document is in English, the translation is written by an English speaker and proofread by a Japanese speaker. As a team of freelancers, for the JP-EN and EN-JP combinations we can offer you the proofreading by a second person, which is standard translation agency procedure!
Michael offers
- French-English (FR-EN) translation
- German-English (DE-EN) translation
Michael began learning French at the age of 9 and German at the age of 13. He went on to study both languages for his 4-year BA degree. His degree course required him to translate to and from the above languages throughout his four years at university, and he now uses his extensive knowledge of these languages to translate professionally.
Note: We translate into our native languages only, so, currently, we do NOT offer EN-DE or EN-FR translation.
INTERPRETING
We provide JP-EN and FR-EN interpreting in South Yorkshire. See the "Experience" tab for details of past interpreting work. Michael is now a registered interpreter with Sheffield Community Access Interpreting Service (UK).
DTP, DESIGN, AND EDITORIAL SERVICES
We work with Microsoft Office and Adobe CS5. We are fully equipped to convert texts to Word documents by OCR. We can offer proofreading and copy editing of English or Japanese text in Word and Adobe InDesign.

Job Reviews on PPH
by Sebastien H on 14 Mar 2012
Michael & Yoshiko translated a large number of documents for us from Japanese to English. These were mostly things like bank statements, rental receipts, health insurance forms, tax bills etc. They were professionally done and on time. They were very easy to communicate with and I would highly recommend their translation service!
