Work Experience

Summary

I am an experienced Human Resources Consultant, with over 20 years experience, mostly in UK Media organisations (including 10 years at the BBC).

My HR Consultancy service (The HR Kiosk) specialises in offering support and advice to small, creative and emerging businesses who may not have their own on-site HR service. The HR Kiosk focuses on providing practical advice regarding employment issues and problems (for staff and freelancers), as and when needed, and I am experienced in producing tailored, compliant and up to date, employment documents including Company Handbooks and Contracts of all types. I am CIPD qualified.

Since 2006 I have also been managing 'Workline' (which offers free employment advice to those working in the UK - via a website and an e-mail helpline), in partnership with www.freelanceadvisor.co.uk. Workline receives a large volume of employment related queries each week from employees, workers, freelancers/contractors and small businesses - over a wide range of subjects, but most frequently about the very complicated Working Time Regulations, the National Minimum Wage, employment 'status' and the Agency Workers Regulations.

Specialties:

Employment law guidance and advice. Employee Relations and staff/freelancer management guidance. Advice on the Working Time Regulations, Agency Workers Regulations, employment status, IR35/Company Structures, employment rights. Employee documentation and handbooks (tailored to your business), advice on policies and Employers legal requirements.

Oct 2010 to Present
Lead Consultant at The HR Kiosk

A Human Resources Consultancy for small, creative and emerging businesses offering pragmatic and cost-effective help with your people issues. I can provide advice when you need it and employee documentation reviews to ensure you are legally compliant and transparent and consistent in your staff management.

Or I can help small companies taking on their first member of staff and advise you of everything you need to know and do, and the documentation you will need to provide.

There was a review of my HR Kiosk Consultancy work on PPH but it's disappeared, but you can view it on my LinkedIn profile!

Or I'm available as an extra pair of experienced hands if your existing HR function needs it.

Manager at Workline - free employment advice for all the UK

Workline is a free Employment advice for all UK industry sectors (that was initially funded by the UK Film Council to offer advice to the Film and TV sectors). Workline provides its advice on a website, that is now hosted by www.freelanceadvisor.co.uk. I write and update the advice and provide an e-mail helpline for those trickier queries! I compose topical employment and law related articles on a monthly basis and advise (Employers, freelancers, employees) on all aspects of employment related issues by website 'comment' and e-mail, with the Working Time Regulations being one of the favourite, constantly hot, topics! And the new Agency Worker Regulations now coming a close second! Plus advice on employment status, employment rights, the national minimum wage, maternity and .............
