About Me
I'm James, a part qualified ACCA accountant.
I specialise in excel development from a finance perspective and able to develop complex statistical models, management information and summarise data in a magnitude of formats; as well as providing automated solutions to everyday business problems.
In addition to the above, I can extract data from relational databases using SQL, write VBA macros, create custom reports from various financial packages (including various accounting systems and Bloomberg) and can work with interfacing systems.
I am able to advise, create and file tax returns (both self employed income tax computations and corporation tax CT600s (generally from a shoe box of receipts).
Able to assist larger corporations with various year end processes and filing of statutory accounts VAT returns etc.
I have experience of working at both ends of the market spectrum from HSBC private bank (in the investment advisory section) to a small housing association (in the finance section), as well as for various self employed individuals and other organisations.
I am qualified to provide investment advice holding the SII Certificate in Investment Management.
Outside of the 'office' I am a keen mountaineer and also teach dingy sailing on voluntary terms for my local sailing club.

I have a wealth of experience working at both ends of the business spectrum, from HSBC private bank with an annual turnover of billions of pounds to a small housing association and self employed individuals.
In addition to formal employment (detailed below). I have the following experience.
Accountant (freelance)
•Prepared for client, from ‘shoe box’ of receipts, year end accounts and subsequent tax returns for filing with HMRC.
•Prepared and filed CT600 corporation tax return.
•Advised client on ‘good’ practices in relation to general ledger maintenance.
Sailing Instructor (Various RYA recognised teaching establishments)
•Led a variety of RYA approved sailing courses.
Aug 2008 to Present
Assistant Property Accountant
•Assisted in the preparation and provision of management information for the production of management and annual statutory accounts and ad-hoc monitoring information to support budget holders and to comply with statutory and performance related purposes as required.
•Contributed to the development of the ICT systems within the Property Department and maintained job costing systems and processes to ensure accurate planning, monitoring, reconciliation and control of expenditure.
•As part of a team, prepared the annual budget for the property department and used this information to support the development of the business plan within the guidelines set by the Board and as required by WAG and lenders.
•On a proactive basis, ensured effective implementation of any financial and risk management plans required to deliver and improve the finance and accountancy services, ensuring that operational services contributed fully to agreed Corporate and Business objectives and to Bron Afon’s financial viability.
•Maintained strong and effective working relationships between staff in the Finance Team and other teams and managers within the Business.
•Ensured that financial records were maintained in line with Financial Regulations, and complied with legislative requirements thereby assisting in the development of effective and appropriate financial policies, practice and procedures.
