About me
I am a qualified and experienced design engineer with the experience and ability to identify problems, formulate ideas and turn those concepts into commercially viable products with the minimum of fuss. One of my specialities is producing high quality technical drawings for use in manufacturing.
With the influence of trends such as globalisation and sustainability, it can be difficult to avoid conflict between the objectives of your business and brand. I can provide sustainable design solutions that also reduce the product cost base by optimising materials, design and manufacturing decisions as a whole.

Design Researcher at Buro Happold:
Given the brief “the use of product design to reduce the environmental impact of construction”, I researched industry trends, and created initial concepts for a product to replace air conditioning by storing heat energy in the walls of buildings. I led the design development of “OmniCare” (the advanced disabled refuge remote), including conducting stakeholder interviews, analysing the legislation and sourcing a manufacturer. I synthesised this information to produce a design which I communicated using storyboards and Solidworks. This product has been put into commercial production. Product Design Engineer at IDEO:
I drew parts in 3D computer aided design (CAD) for an electronic product called Roomwizard and then translated the CAD model into 2D blueprints for use by the manufacturers. I developed a stand for use in freestanding situations including calculating the loading and rigidity of the final solution. The product has been successfully commercialised. Design Engineer at AMOT:
I developed a new range of thermostatic valves with the aim of reducing the variety of components used, thereby increasing the economy of scale and simplifying maintenance procedures in the field. I drafted these proposals in 2D and 3D in AutoCAD and interrogated the designs against British Standards, calculated pressure strengths in different materials and optimised the design for sand casting. I liaised with the shop floor and suppliers, and the range went into production in 2001.

Product Design Engineer
To be ahead of the competition, every business has to come up with new and interesting products which have commercial appeal. It is this business focus that makes me different to the crowd. I bring a level of pragmatism to innovation that is a rare quality in the design community.
