Creation Agency
(Turnover 4.1m | 57 employees) www.creationagency.com
2004-2010. Creative Director
Citizen (below) was bought out and merged with an existing agency to form Creation Agency. I joined as Creative Director and sat on the board of directors. Drawing on my experience and client base the company maintained productive partnerships with Apple and JLP and we expanded our portfolio to include Xerox, BBC, iTunes, Leicester City Council, Samsung and Computacenter. I was instrumental in the acquisition and development of all clients from 2004 onwards and managed a team of interactive and print creatives.
Citizen www.citizenstudios.co.uk
2003-ongoing. Owner
M:/Drive was bought by a US investment group. I seized the opportunity to start up my own company - Citizen. I continued my relationship with Apple at John Lewis whilst expanding my portfolio to include other major brands such as HP, John Lewis Partnership, Universal Records and The BBC. Citizen has been driven by a need to express creatively, and built on a relationship with contacts within the Entertainment industries.
M:/Drive
2001-2003. Art Director

My most high profile account was the Apple (at John Lewis campaign) who ran advertising across all major national press. I also worked with Toshiba and Microsoft.

Company: Original Wedding Tea Towel
Description: In December last year Ben and Karen got married. I'm a designer so was under huge pressure to come up with a cool idea for the invitation. After about 20 failed attempts they finally hit on the idea of doing something people could keep, (after all, why spend all that money on something that people are only going to throw away), so perhaps, oddly, we decided on doing a teatowel.
Eventually, we a design and got it to print, then we came to the day of sending them out. Waiting for people's responses was quite terrifying, we were worried it was going to be met with a blanket 'WHY?', but really, it couldn't have been further from the truth. People seemed genuinely blown away by them and the feedback was totally amazing.
Anyway, we got married and when the dust had settled they both thought maybe the idea was good enough to make a little business out of, so that's exactly what they did. They've taken orders all over the UK and sent out loads of samples.
Our experience in marketing (Karen was a Senior Project Manager at BBH and Ben's Creative Director at alarge MK agency) means they can use that professionalism with our clients to make themfeel at ease. Our biggest challenge is getting free press from the magazines and wedding blogs, so far we've been pretty successful in getting the idea picked up, and that press has driven most of our business.
People always ask "why don't you do mugs, coasters, or sell the idea to schools, and playgroups" but we're not going to diversify in that way and lose focus. The strength of the product and of it's targeting is its niche; it's a specific type of product for a specific type
of customer at a specific time in their lives and the smaller that target the more likely we're the only ones that can hit it.
It's a simple idea that appeals to the kind of interesting people we want to work with, and a busines that's grown-up with love and attention.
