Job Description

We are looking for an experienced .NET / SQLServer developer to create an online poker game for a major blue-chip client.

We are ourselves an internet development company but the requirements of this project have led us to seek extra hands to carry out the majority of the coding work. If you are successful you will work with an in-house manager on the structure and core functionality of the system but the majority of the actual coding will be down to you.

With regards to the game itself, we essentially require an online poker game where players can sit at a table and play each other. The visual layout of the site will be provided by our designers, and ultimately the game will have a flash interface which will need to be integrated but the first step is to get the game engine working. It is important to outline that these games will be for fun and NOT FOR REAL MONEY - this should make the project easier to handle as we will not need to stick to gambling laws, carry out financial transactions etc.

As a rough guide of what the web application will comprise of the game will also require an avatar system with an editor to modify a the user's profile and a CMS to manage the text on the site.

A clearer outline will be provided to bidders once they pass an initial screening, and we will also require examples of other large-scale projects that you have worked on and references if possible. A familiarity with the rules of poker would certainly be useful but not vital.

The project needs to be completed by October 2009, and work will commence shortly.

Hi Alun,

From the details of the overall system, you are looking to build something like <Please Login to view link>. The programmer will be required to set up the online site, build a complete CMS for you so that you are then able to add your content and be able to integrate the system with the flash interface. The system will need a account management system where the users will first be able to make their textual profile and later build characters. The system will also need to be able to allow them to interact with each other and play poker (possibly in a number of formats ). A user logging on will be able to see online games and join them depending on the the number of players already present and the possibly permission of the person who started the game. The system will also be required to keep the history of games and conduct tournaments.
The only financial transactions might be to do with the membership fee of the site. The site will also need to have a advertisement management system.
Please let me know if I am on the right track so far.
Could you also please provide more details on the avatar system required. Does that need to be 2D or 3D, please send examples if available ? Will all the design elements including the css be provided by your design team ? What will the programmer be required to do with regards to the flash interface ?
Due to the nature and scale of the project, it will not be possible to place a bid without much more details. Also, even though I am based in London, do you need the programmer to work in-house or only required to interact with the in-house manager.
