Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Hello,
I am building a clothing company in which all the clothes will be handmade in England by skilled local craftspeople. The first item of clothing that my company will offer, will be a waxed cotton rain hat. I have the patterns, the design, and the materials all ready to go. I just need local people who are able and willing to make them.
Things to note:
> This is the type of project I am happy for people to fit in and around their own schedules. This will not have strict deadlines. The goal is that you will be able to work as much or as little on this as you want.
> Whilst the hat is the first item, I am keen support other designs and limited edition pieces under the umbrella of the brand. So once the hat has become successful, there will be scope to be creative and play with ideas.
> My main focus of the brand is to support local craftspeople. So whilst making a hat may not be your absolute passion, it could provide a regular income, which can provide ongoing support for other passions/ projects.
Each hat takes my current seamstress 45 minutes to make, which works out at around £11.25 per hat. As you streamline the process, you should be able to make the hats quicker than this, but I will be happy to pay you the same rate so that any increase in efficiency will be at your own benefit and not mine. As an example, 40 x Hats, would take 30 hours, for which you would receive £450.00, if you were to make them in 20 hours, I would still pay £450.00.
I am based in London and it would be helpful if you were also located in or a reasonable driving distance from the London region. Once the project is a bit more scaled up, I should then be able to engage with makers throughout England and the UK.
My website for the company is: www.thehatterskingdom.co.uk , which should give you a general idea of what I am hoping to achieve. You may note that each hat contains a maker mark, in which you would stamp your name/ or something unique to you, which will connect you to the person wearing the hat.
If you feel keen on the project but perhaps feel that I may not consider you suitable due to your location/ my budget, please do still get in touch. If you are passionate about the project, I can try make accommodations where possible.
Whilst I can supply the materials and patterns, you will need your own machines and tools, and would need to construct the hats in your home or studio.
If you need more details, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.
