Who Else Has bid.....

- Hide
I have to say im really really not a fan of this new feature.

One of the major benifits of this site is the privicy.
eg: not knowing who else was bidding.

It doesnt happen in the real world,... you wouldent post up a list on the door of all the people applying for a job ’ would you?

It means that freelancers are going to start getting irritated at each other also....’
If I can see that "MR X" has bid on all the jobs I bid on... im probably going to start to get irritated at "MR X"

I can see why its being trialed. But I STRONGLY disagree with the princible of it.

I agree with Calum. The changes which seem to have been implemented will have a detrimental effect on the quality of this site. In addition to the "who else has bid" the fact that you are displaying the average bid price is similar to the freelancers website, and I personally don't use it for that very reason.

Bring back the privacy!

Average bid price...’
oh gosh i didnt even see that the first time!!!

The problem is it encourages a low bid...
Im sorry PPH, I love you, I make good money through you, and I pay to use your
service, but encouraging Average low bids is as "Philip L" suggest exactly like the’ http://www.freelancer.com/ site, which I perosnnaly hate.

Youve been making some great additions recently, Currency, edits to the forums, Staring jobs people and everything else, the profile badge image things, and lots more under the hood stuff Im sure..’
But this Really, Is not a good move....’

Please reconsider.
Sorry’

Calum’

A seriously bad idea.

I am currently still in the ranks of the undecided on this feature. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. I think if used wisely and in moderation, it can promote healthy competition and more informed bids/proposals. On the other hand, it gives way to undercutting and sneaky tactics. It's a slippery slope, but I'm curious to see how it goes. I would just hate to see PPH go the way of Freelancer.com and become a completely toxic bidding environment. I was badly burned there, and found PPH to be a real breath of fresh air after dealing with those guys.

Hello PPHers,’

For those that dont know me i am the founder and CEO of ’ PPH. I have read the comments in response to this feature and would like to reassure you that the intention was quite the opposite of how its been perceived (we may have got it wrong in which case we will act fast and fix it). So rest assured.’
Allow me to explain’

The intention of this was NOT to go down the Freelancer.com way or promote cheaper bids. In fact we did it as a means of showing our users that the bids are in fact not all from ’ the far east and for slave labour rates as many people think. We have been sharing our stats with the community on PPH Econony for some time which clearly show that the cheapest bid doesnt in fact aways win - quite the opposite in fact it rarely wins. But then not many people look at PH Economy so we thought 'oh well lets just show the stats on the Job page'.. It may be the wrong means to the right end , we will dig in, listen to you and fix it if thats the case. But the intention is to promote quality local bids..’

Equally we started showing the country of the winning bidder in the "Awarded Jobs' section which again if you look will validate what ’ the stats on PPH Economy show - that over 70% of the bids are won by UK freelancers.’

In any case, as i say we will work on this and act fast if we have got it wong. But there is no reason to misread this as an attempt to go down the 'cheap' route. Why aftwer spending 4 hard years of building a quialty community would we just dump it all away?’ smiley

Once again we are grateful for your feedback’

One really poor part of the implementation is that the first to bid, has their actual bid value and identity exposed for the world to see.

Increasingly PPH seem to be implementing features without thinking them through or indeed testing them before putting them live.

Kudos to you Xenios T

I can't speak for everyone, but that's what I wanted to hear. As I said in my previous post, "used wisely and in moderation" would be the key. Nice to see that you guys are paying attention and making informed desicions unlike "the other guys". I will continue to watch the changes myself and see how it goes. Thanks for jumping in and letting us know you're on the ball.
