Freelance Illustrator, David G

Freelance Illustrator

Wrexham, United Kingdom
I was born in Wrexham, Clywd, North Wales in 1968 and brought up in a village called The Lodge. I have lived in Manchester for about 12 years, studying art and illustration and have spent the past 10 years living and working in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I now reside in Wrexham, North Wales again. Since I was a child, I have always been interested in Art and Illustration. I studied both at Wrexham college of art and in Manchester and Stockport over a period of five years. I had a few influences in becoming an illustrator, mainly a few friends like Jonathan Edwards and Neil Evans, childhood friends who are excellent Illustrators and people. Artists and illustrators such as Dave Mckean, Lane Smith and Mark Ryden are a source of great inspiration to me. I am quite diverse when it comes to art, from stylised creations to realism, although I mainly concentrate on the stylised form as I can express my own originality regarding illustration and put more of myself into my creations. My main field of illustration lies in the field of children’s books with a light feel and has a colourful flow to it, on the other hand, I do like artwork that is darker and more obscure such as the artwork of Mark Ryden and illustrators like him. I mainly use the traditional form of creating illustration, that is by hand, I love using acrylic paint or drawing techniques but have been exploring more in recent years digital art using programmes such as Photoshop, Illustrator and 3D Max Studio. I consider myself an Illustrator who likes to explore the realms of creativity. I have written books for children but never really finished anything as a whole. I have worked for a number of Editorials during past years such as Lip International and Fountainhead Studios who are based in Manchester and Stockport and Estrada who are based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have had both Greetings Cards and Children’s books published with these Editorials. I have been a member of the Forum of illustrators in Argentina for many years and communicated with various fellow illustrators who have a beautiful range of diverse styles and character. Apart from Illustrating, I do have other hobbies or interests such as writing, music, songs or ideas for children’s books, playing guitar or piano, reading and things included in that nature. I have also worked from time to time as a teacher of illustration and for the past 10 years ...as an English teacher as a second language. If I wasn’t an Illustrator I would probably continue as an English... teacher as I like teaching very much. Although the city life is where I have been living for the past 22 years or so and holds a great amount of potential and work possibilities, at heart I have always loved the country life where I was born and brought up. I like to listen to a diverse range of music but mainly avant-guarde or less well known artists such as Bill Callahan, Scott Walker and Peter Hammill. I rarely watch films but do like a particular genre such as some creative, imaginative or underground films such as Ingmar Bergman, Tim Burton, Kustarica and other creative and imaginative directors or producers.

Personal Background I have a vested interest in disability issues as my 19 year old son is disabled due to Cerebral Palsy. He uses an electric wheelchair and is currently at university. Due to a lack of First Aid Courses which include disability situations, I have written courses around disability based on the experiences and obstacles my son has faced during his life. My aim as a trainer and tutor is to encourage and enable learning, whilst providing a service and support to those who may find it harder to learn than others. I believe everyone has the right to be treated equally and encouraged to achieve their full potential in a safe and relaxed environment.

Writer/Blogger/SEO/Web content/Expertise in digital education. Also skilled in image editing and retouching., Steve G

Writer/Blogger/SEO/Web content/Expertise in digital edu...

Belper, United Kingdom
Educational and assessment writer, article writer, educational resource designer, photographer and Photoshop' editor. Within my freelancing work, I have been commissioned for projects involving article writing, educational writing, blog writing, SEO articles ( although I am not an SEO expert!) proof reading, qualification design (including specification, mark scheme and specimen assessment material - See portfolio) I have designed both text-based resources and animated instructional tutorials and I am presently working for a Hong Kong-based client producing voice-over language resources. Producing articles and reports for both educational and qualification organisations is very challenging as they have very high expectations of quality due to the nature of their business in which they are involved. Also, a lot of work is very time-critical as a consequence of needing to submit qualification documentation for review to allow an award to gain approval for issue for teaching within that school year. As a consequence, the work that I complete has to be extremely well written, with no spelling or grammatical errors and to strict deadlines as these institutions are understandably pedantic about the copy that they publish. My current clients include the qualifications regulator OfQual, various UK and international exam boards, an educational games company based in London and a Hong-based educational resource company. As a freelancer: • I have designed a number of GCSE ICT and Design and Technology qualifications, including specifications, mark schemes and specimen assessment material, for a range of UK and international awarding organisations. I have also designed and written numerous text and web-based qualification support resources. • I have been commissioned by OfQual to evaluate and review a range of new national qualifications from a broad spectrum of UK awarding bodies before they are released to the general education community. This process involves writing a complete report focusing on a wide variety of assessment criteria, judging the standard of qualifications against these criteria and informing OfQual whether the award has met them. • I have worked extensively with an educational game developer writing 17, 500 GCSE level short questions to populate the game database. The game was recently launched at the 2012 BETT conference in London to wide critical acclaim. • I am also working with an educational company ...based in Hong Kong and provided voice-over mp3s for web-based resources aimed at Chinese students learning English as a second... language. • I have also been commissioned and completed an extensive report evaluating a suite of comprehensive educational resources for the Royal Albert Hall. Finally, I am also a keen photographer and have broad and well-developed 'Photoshop' and 'Lightroom' skills and experience which I am keen to offer to clients that require these skills. Please see my portfolio for various examples of both writing commissions and photography that I have carried out. I look forward to working with you in the future. Thanks for reading. Steve
