Freelance (science) writer and editor

I am an intelligent, well educated young woman with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. After graduating in 2004 with an upper 2nd class honours degree (score 68.9%), I took a Post Graduate Certificate of Education and worked as a Biology teacher in a prestigious boarding grammar school for two years. Following this I decided to take some time out for myself and spent the next year travelling the world, before returning to the UK and choosing a change of career. Since returning from my travels I have been working in biomedical publishing, first as an editorial assistant for an online biomedical picture library, and now as a full time freelance writer and editor. My main client is a leading biomedical publishing company based in London for whom I provide remote editorial assistance; overseeing timely peer review of scientific manuscripts, liaising with authors and editors, copyediting of texts and writing press releases. A recent press release I wrote was picked up by 3 national newspapers (UK) and a host of other science news websites! The nature of this job requires an outstanding level of attention to detail, superb grammar, spelling and punctuation (particularly for specific, scientific language) as well as an understanding of web publishing, peer-review, pre- and post production. I have access to the full text of a wide range of journals and books through this company and so am perfectly placed to research articles for a variety of science and social science topics. I am able to write in British or American English as required and have a quick and accurate typing speed of 60 words per minute.
