I specialise in German > English translation, writing, proofreading and editing, but can also translate from French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish,
... Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic into my native English. A graduate of the University of Sheffield, where I studied English Language and Medieval Literature, as well as German, I gained a Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache from the Goethe-Institut and was awarded the Nicolette Richmond prize in German. My translations of Icelandic sagas, 14 to date, were first published by the Northvegr Foundation and are now available at Germanic Mythology dot com. I have a deep interest in mathematics and the natural sciences and have translated specialist texts in these areas, such as Einstein’s 1924 paper ‘Über den Äther’. Besides this, I relish the challenge of translating into ancient languages, Old English, Old Norse and Gothic; I’ve collaborated with actress and director Eva Maria-Leonardou to create Gothic film dialogue, advising on pronunciation, and I welcome requests to apply my knowledge of runes and other historical scripts to the composition of mottos for jewellery, monuments, tattoos, etc. I’m the author of a widely used Gothic-English dictionary and am currently working on a monograph on Gothic syntax. Since 2005, I’ve been a moderator of the Norse Course forum for students of Old Norse. I’ve been a book reviewer for Language, journal of the Linguistic Society of America. As an author of original fiction, my work has appeared in a range of online and print journals, including Antipodean SF, Café Irreal, Whispers of Wickedness and The 3rd Bed.Skills: English
