Having spent the last ten years working for the MOD in a pivotal role within their environmental protection training school,
... I constantly fulfilled a role as an advisor regarding environmental issues. This involved delivering training both in the fixed workplace and also around the UK and overseas. This has required reliance upon working on initiative and being confident in working outside of the comfort parameters that are found in a normal working environment. Each day I would field and answer questions regarding environmental protection and when not in the classroom would find myself doing the same over the phone, communicating with Tri-service personnel of all ranks alongside the equable structure of the Civil-Service. I am well used to communicating with senior figures in the organization up to and including the Officer Commanding British Forces Cyprus and a Permanent under Secretary of State. Undertaking research at University, I presented my findings at the British Ecological Society and to the delegates at the World Orchid Conference in 2000. In my more recent role of Course Design and Standards Manager I had the responsibility to create appropriate training packages to meet the needs of a variety of audience types. This meant having the flexibility to differentiate between different learning needs. It also required working alongside the MODs Policy Branch to ensure that unit and ultimately Government requirements were met. The standards aspect of the post required the management of a team of instructors to ensure that the courses being delivered were current and of a sufficient standard to show a contemporary professional service. Supporting this training delivery, I have acted as the Station Environmental Protection Advisor at RAF High Wycombe Strike Command with a remit of supporting the Stations environmental commitments. As a member of the management board my overall responsibility was to advise the Station Commander on correct environmental procedures and best practice ensuring environmental legal compliance and cost effectiveness. This involved the implementation of an Environmental management System based on ISO 14001. I also had financial responsibility for the 2.8 million pounds annual utilities budget. My final role within the MOD reflected the above position but was held at a different RAF Station, where I also acted as the deputy Health & Safety officer. I am currently running a small training company delivering EMS, environmental auditing, pollution prevention, general environmental protection, H&S risk assessment, manuyal handling, First Aid at Work/requalification, Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid at Work training courses.Skills: Environmental protection consultant
