I cut my teeth in journalism by writing for Edinburgh's Festival Times, covering theatre and fiction. My interview with a sleepy Melvyn Bragg on an early morning phoneline to a Glasgow hotel room, was an early highlight. As I embarked upon my work and travels in eastern Europe with the British Council I was immediately struck by the rich artistic culture in Poland, the first country I called home in 1992. I began writing a weekly column for the Warsaw Voice. I was living in Poland's second city, Lodz, which boasted a vibrant local arts community. My writing helped to put Lodz arts back on the map. Moving to Sofia, Bulgaria I continued in a similar vein for the Sofia Echo but also expanded into feature writing with a front-page feature on the disappearing ethnic Turkish population in Southern Bulgaria. Next, in the beautiful city of Prague I came back to my true passion, modern art. The esteemed Prague Post was my new home. At the Post I wrote exclusively on local and eastern European artists, promoting Czech art to the English-speaking world. Since returning to the UK ...after a stint in Albania and the Tirana Times, I have focussed on academic research in marketing, human rights and... the environment.

I have been drawing for around 23 years. I am 24 years old and live in London with my boyfriend Joe and our daughter Quinn. My first major finished work was ‘Mr Potato Head’ (wallpaper and finger paint) aged two that was carried home rolled up on the back of my dad’s bicycle. My parents were the very encouraging sort, and would often provide me with works by Matisse, Gaugin, Modigliani and Monet to copy in my own time. One of my earliest memories is of cracking the problem of illustrating perspective by drawing a bowl of clementines from the kitchen. I studied English Literature and History at Edinburgh University whilst also juggling working as a support worker and arts outreach worker for a range of arts based charities, a History tour guide, an English tutor, an illustrator and countless Edinburgh Fringe Festival jobs. I graduated with a First Class Dual Honours MA and a growing baby bump. I currently work as a freelance illustrator specialising in delicate hand drawn book illustrations. My style is both humourous, decorative and stylised. My illustrations are inspired from a diverse range of materials. I find black and white deeply useful for expressing tetxure and mood, though I like to include backdrops of Mediteranean oranges, reds and autumnal browns. I am also a big fan of Byzantine art and early Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts. Whilst I work mainly as a traditional hand drawn illustrator, I am also very comfortable with using Adobe graphic design packages to enhance images/layer text create product designs. My clients range from John Lewis to small independent mental health charities and my illustrations are flexible enough to cater to this diverse market. In addition to my freelance work I also volunteer with Quentin Blake's 'House of Illustration' project and care for my podgy toddler daughter.
