I currently work as an Event Manager for a company who specialise in roadshows and incentive travel events. In this... role I head up the experiential activity for Sony PlayStation. In previous event producer/manager roles I specialise in running a number of indoor and outdoor events - both small and large scale - the biggest of which was the award-winning IKEA Southampton store opening, which took place in February this 2009. Brief summary of the IKEA campaign which will give you an idea of the type of campaigns I am used to organising from an Account Management, Production and staffing perspective. During the month leading up to the stores’ launch, I negotiated contracts with local Councils, the Police, Red Funnel Ferries and the Traffic Authority in each region to successfully build and install giant furniture installations to promote brand presence in the area. Ferries travelling from Southampton to the Isle of White were branded in IKEA blue and yellow and a month long touring road-show visited nearby catchment areas, entertaining crowds, giving away prizes and capturing information. This generated a huge buzz for the brand in the build up to their big day. On opening day, I worked with IKEA Operations and Facilities to manage crowd control inside and outside store. Over 17, 000 people walked through the doors and it was up to me to make sure they were safe, dry, entertained and having the best day possible! First day sales exceeded 10% and penetration of brand presence in target towns reached 73%. The launch activity earned us the CIPR Excellence Award 2009 for best event and we have been nominated for a Pride Award. In addition, I also Event Managed the IKEA Swedish festival on Hampstead Heath, which saw over 5, 000 festival goers take part in eco-friendly activities on the heath. A number of marquees were setup serving hot food and refreshments, whilst on the main stage Swedish and British bands battled it out. As the Event Manager, it was my job to manage logistics and operations whilst maintaining ground conditions on the heath, book security, stewards and promotional staff, organise the entertainment and manage the production in terms of power to site and rigging of equipment. As well as the bigger projects, I also work on shopping centre promotions, product launches, experiential road-shows and corporate events. In previous event jobs, I worked with festival organisers to secure presence on site - much of the work I do is very production heavy. Health and Safety regulations must be adhered to, all paperwork must be checked and approved beforehand and, of course, site visits, supplier visits and constant supplier negotiation are part and parcel of the job - as well as keeping the client happy and reassured that all is running to schedule.
