Technology Research and Development

My name is Benjamin; I’m a technology enterpreur and self-taught electronic designer and software developer. I’ve had the need of... knowing how stuff works since always and I had to supply this need by dismantling every electronic device I could get my hands on. But that was before I got my first computer when I learned that it was much easier to work with the fundamentals as opposed to electronics. I came back to electronics engineering when I started working with microcontrollers in one of my early jobs. I was amazed by the concept and the possibilities of implementing the hardware and the software at the same fundamental levels. From there on I’ve been doing just that. Back in 2006 I was hired by IBM to work as a Unix Admin. At that time I was very motivated by the idea running enterprise servers and high end computing projects as the head of the AIX experts team; projects like clustering, virtualization, business continuity and so on. But I was always disturbed by the way those resources are managed by large corporations, it’s not as lean & mean as they claim to, and that’s why my first advice to them would be: run it on Linux! This year I started working as a freelancer because I was confident that I could get back some of the dynamism of my early jobs but still retain the benefits of a full-time job. I choose to work on projects that also feed my brain; I prefer to work with virtual teams, in the software projects I develop in C, JavaScript or PHP, the rest may be nice but I don’t care, except maybe Rebol® which I love and respect as the most powerful of programming language ever created. I would rarely reject a hardware project, it must have a microcontroller and I would insist on writing the microcode in assembler.
