I attended school in Wavertree and then moved to Crosby where I went to St Edmunds primary and Sacred Heart Catholic High secondary and Sixth Form. I studied ten GCSE and four A-Levels and then gained a place to study Integrated Engineering at the University of Liverpool. Throughout my life I have had a keen interest in all things technical and mechanical. During my years growing up with computers i have learned how to use the Microsoft suite with skill and have also done quite a lot of work with various computer graphics packages. I gained a grade A in Art at GCSE but did not follow that academic route as I thought it would be more effective for me to learn more in other areas of Science first. At university I found the amount of work required a challenge. The work ranged from Engineering Maths, Engineering Design to digital Electronics. I found the laboratory work very interesting and gained good ...marks for most of the hands on assessments. In the last year of University my individual project was to research... into and design an ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition Reactor) that are used in the electronics industry to lay fine layers of materials onto silicon wafers for the creation of transistors. I designed all of the components using Pro/Engineer and then used Pro/Engineers analysis tools to set up an internal and external pressure on the chamber that could estimate and display the loads on the material. I took 3 Design classes where we were walked through the stages of creating a model using Pro/Engineer, we were taught about the various extrude and feature creation tools. We were shown how to create assemblies using individual components and shown that they could be constrained to each other to make a mechanical assembly that had degrees of freedom and could mimic the real world situation. We, as a class, designed the parts of an engine cylinder with, crank, pushrod, cylinder and valves. We then used a program called Matlab to model the action and processes involved in the operation of such a cylinder in an engine, the forces and stresses involved. I have a keen interest in engineering and would like to gain an opportunity to progress in this area of work. Since I finished University I have been working as an Administrator for a Building Contracts firm where I have took over from the duties of the previous administrator. Since I last updated my CV there has been a global financial recession and jobs apparantly are harder to find, i have taken it upon myself and decided that i would like to work in areas of work relating to computer art creation and animation skills for movies and games as i think my background in engineering and my apditude towards the artistic could be an advantage to me in an area such as this. This would remove the need for someone skilled in the use of a program such as SAGE accounting to have a Debtors or Creditors list for monthly payment credit and debit accounts. I have increased efficiency with this simple system with the use of bespoke user forms for invoice and payment data entry and macros that can repeat monotonous tasks calculating account balances from invoices entered for up to 70 suppliers. Performed monthly Bank Reconciliation. Calculated and paid any PAYE or VAT due on quarterly activity with the use of Microsoft Excel also. Project management timescale design complete with various tasks to be performed by each respective trades men to reach final project specifications. RESEARCH: I am a researcher... specialising in China and I have worked in this position in the private sector and with NGOs. Most recently I was a researcher for NGO Global Witness, where I worked primarily on an investigation that was published in The Economist as a feature report. I studied Chinese and Politics at The School of Oriental and African Studies, and so I am familiar with current academic literature related to China and I know who the experts are. I am also familiar with a variety of Chinese language online resources including social media, blogs, news media and government databases. I provide research services in Chinese and English language and my rates are competitive. I will do an initial hour of research at half price and give you a brief report, after which you can decide whether continuing with the research is likely to be a valuable investment or not. TRANSLATION: With over five years experience in Chinese-to-English translation I am proficient in translating news articles, company reports, hand-written letters and technical documents. I combine my own skills and knowledge with the latest in assisted translation software to provide accurate and reliable translations in good time. I provide two types of translation services: First Draft Translation: a quick and professional translation of a document for informational rather than publication purposes. For this translation I may use assisted translation software, though the final translation will be fully edited by myself. I can usually do between 250-600 words an hour (depending on content). Managed Translation and Feedback: translation with separate editing. This is a full translation for which I add translator notes to the first draft and then make additional edits in consultation with the client. This is the best option if you want an accurate and reliable finished translation document for publication purposes. Such a translation can however take much longer (100-250 words an hour depending on content). For each job I can provide a free estimate based on word count and content. CHINESE TEACHING: For me, teaching Chinese is a real pleasure. For you as a beginner, learning Chinese will more often be painful. With us balanced in perfect equilibrium, I can help you to overcome the language's main challenges and uncover its great riches. However, the pleasure I get from teaching is dependant upon the seriousness with which my students take learning Chinese. If my students are not serious, then I'm probably not getting much pleasure out of it either. At this point the whole pleasure-pain balance is gone and we're spinning out of equilibrium. If you are interested in learning Chinese, first please think carefully why that is and what you want to achieve with it. Make sure it's really what you want to do. If you don't do this, there is the danger that you will begin the difficult task of learning Chinese without any real prospect of success. If you haven't been scared away by the above, then great! You're probably also wondering what my qualifications are. Apart from having Chinese language fluency, one of the most important qualifications I have is being a non-native Chinese speaker. This may sound strange. But having learnt the language from scratch up to fluency I've been through it all, I know all the challenges involved, and I also know how to overcome them. Secondly, I learnt Chinese using the best methods taught at the best universities, and so I know which teaching resources to use and what teaching methods to apply. Lastly, as I mentioned, I get pleasure from it and I enjoy seeing my students improve. Besides the hard work you put in, I know your improvement is dependent on me providing the best tuition possible, helping you to maintain your interest and seeing you through the difficult challenges ahead.
